And two - in the campaign, upgraded horses and fireflies are more effective than archers.
Having fireflies is essential to go first. With the first turn, reinforce (level 2) the horses, and then you can send them into the fray without worrying too much about losses.
Spending upgrades on arbalesters (+3% damage per shot) - the only ranged unit in the entire faction - is the height of irresponsibility :) What do you do if the arbalesters are taken out? Passive perks for defense and retaliatory strikes, and battle cries - that's what this faction needs.
And, of course, use the guardian angel wisely.
Hey, why are you so focused on Antonshka? Crossbowmen don't attack their own units standing on adjacent tiles. That's one thing.
In this case, crossbowmen will be blocked first, and secondly, when the same cavalry units are fighting on the front lines, you might have to wait or even skip turns so as not to hit your own units.

In the Campaigns, upgraded cavalry and light cavalry rule, not ranged units.
Buggy cavalry definitely doesn't rule. Light cavalry deals good damage, yes, but they can never hold the line.

What’s so great about Antoshka? +15% to aerial attack is insignificant.
15% isn’t much worse than 3% per shot. You can take out archers with griffins just as well as with crossbowmen.
In that case, crossbowmen will be blocked first, and secondly, when the same cavalry units are fighting on the front lines, you might have to wait or even skip turns so as not to hit your own units.
Hiding and camping is not interesting at all...
Really? You can hit several stacks at once with crossbows, dealing significant damage. If there are no defenders nearby, they’re doomed. Especially enemy sprites and sisters.
And what about the fact that they don’t upgrade? :)
Buggy cavalry definitely doesn’t rule. Sprites hit hard, yes, but they will never withstand focus fire.
and they attack without retaliation. How about three turns of cavalry in a row (and with waiting – all four)?
Your advice didn't help.Where are the Vestals? And why are there so few Knights (they join as neutral units)??? I didn't defeat the Barons immediately; they stay safely in their Castles, and let them stay there.
I'm playing through the Necromancer scenario without any losses; by the end of the first week, I have 100 Guardians, 50 Archers, 9 Knights, and 12 Griffins. Is it possible to quickly defeat any of the Barons with such an army? They have a deadly status, and on top of that, an additional high-level hero is added. If you defeat the additional hero, there will be no army left for the Baron. How can I defeat them?
Could you provide a step-by-step guide, if possible? I'm at my wit's end... :smile35:
I play everything on the hardest difficulty level.
In the 1st week (!!!), I captured both the Necromancer Castle and the Human Castle across the river. I immediately ran to the Necromancer Castle, then immediately to the Alliance Castle. The faster you get there (it's a matter of days), the fewer Liches and Lamassu there will be. Ideally, convert the dwellings by the end of the week.
After taking 2 Castles, you can take a breather, joining all the neutral Alliance armies that join (save some for later, when you have enough money). Also, check the mines and resources. (All dwellings should be converted in the 1st week!).
Defeat the approaching heroes, preferably without losses. Or go to the Barons' Castles and defeat them there, at the gates.
Ideally, from this point on, your growth should be higher than that of each of the Barons, and the rest of the game is a matter of technique and time. If you lack the technique to win with acceptable losses, wait a while. :)
Regarding tactics, I spoke with a friend today, and he reminded me that I'm slow... I completely forgot about the Knights' ability to run through obstacles (including the Castle gates), even though I emphasized them. I don't remember if they improve on this map, though. In any case, reinforce them and go break down the gates and everything behind them.
After defeating the Barons and capturing all the Alliance cities, you don't need to rush anywhere. The gates to the Necromancer lands will open after completing the quest - the battle with the demon-Kyrill. No one will come from underground before the battle with the demon (one hero came to me from there, probably because he ran there at the beginning of the game).
And here's a small strategic, legitimate cheat. If there are 2 heroes in the enemy city (1 at the gates, the other very strong in the Castle), defeat one, but don't attack the second. The next day, he will buy another hero and share his army with the strong hero, and put him back at the gates. Defeat the gatekeeper, and the hero's army in the city will gradually decrease. However, this doesn't always work.
*secretly* The fact that the damage numbers in the tooltip don't increase with the attack range doesn't necessarily mean that the horses are bugged and deal damage without retaliation. How about three consecutive turns of horses (and with waiting – all four)?
Of course, the AI doesn't place guardians properly. It's interesting to see what your camping tactics will lead to when playing against a human, who will wipe out your stack of archers.
As for the human player, that's just circumstantial. But we're talking about the campaign and computer opponents.
The damage of ONE stack of archers is definitely less than the damage of FIVE stacks of melee units. I've said everything, there's nothing more to add.
Closing in and camping is not interesting at all...
As for the interest, that's beside the point. How interesting it is for you to dominate the AI is your personal business; I'm just describing a perfectly viable and simple tactic.
And abilities don't matter much for good players.
You can defeat archers with griffins just as well as with ballistae.

But you can also resurrect them and Vestals in the castle O_O (I used to build a different structure, but now I noticed).

:D The damage might be less, but the enemy doesn't deal damage in return during a counterattack.
As for the "fun" aspect, that's beside the point. How you find it entertaining to mess around with the AI is your own business; I'm just describing a perfectly viable and straightforward tactic for playing the game.
It's a long tactic, and the damage from crossbows is small. I only used it on the first level of the campaign.
But you can also resurrect Vestals in the castle O_O (I used to build a different structure, but now I noticed).

Supric, a unique building that costs 10 crystals and is located in the third row of construction in a town. Click on the arrow, click again, and a window should pop up saying "Altar of Resurrection." I haven't tried using it myself yet, but I read about this building in the manual.
Or is it an upgrade?
Actually, it's not relevant to me; starting from the second week, I'm almost defeating everyone without any losses, but it's still good to know...
