This manual will tell you in sufficient detail how to start playing Heroes of Might and Magic Online, from account registration to character creation.

The first thing you need to do is open the page at the following link:

A registration form will be opened (see screenshot). You need to fill in all the fields of the form; if one of the fields is filled out incorrectly, a warning and information about the rules that the information in this field must comply with will be shown to the right of that field. Correct fields are marked as "Filled out correctly" (as shown in the screenshot).

If you do not want to receive news about Zero Online, Eudemons Online, and Conquer Online games in your mailbox, uncheck the corresponding names under the "News subscribe" heading (personally, I don't know these games, so I disabled the mailing list).

After that, a page with registration congratulations will appear and a button which, when clicked, allows you to save some of your registration data to a text file (this specifically includes the Security Code, which will likely be needed in case of password recovery).

Next, go to the game client download page (see screenshot):

On the opened page, there are several download options:

• P2P High Speed Download
• FTP Download
• BT Speed Download
• BT Seed Download

In the case of P2P High Speed Download (see screenshot) and BT Seed Download (see screenshot), you will be prompted to download a small program that will handle the further downloading of the client. In the case of FTP Download, there is a direct link to the client on FTP. In the case of BT Speed Download, you will be prompted to download a torrent file intended for downloading using BitTorrent programs.

After completing the download (in the case of P2P High Speed Download, you can simply click the Install button in the program), run the installation file hommonline_vXXXX.exe (where XXXX is the number of the downloaded client version). A fairly standard installation dialog will be offered (License Agreement, installation folder, and so on).

After completing the installation, you need to run play.exe in the folder with the installed client (if you created a shortcut on the desktop, then naturally you can launch it from the shortcut).

Upon launching, a window similar to the one shown in the screenshot below will appear (images may change as they are loaded from the game servers):



The window contains buttons: Exit, Register (opens the registration page in the browser), Home (opens the official game website), L and H (Affects image quality in the game, H is best quality), Start (Launch client).

Select H or L (if you believe your computer cannot handle the game and will lag) and click the "Start" button.

If not the latest version of the client was downloaded, there will be an automatic download and installation of patches.



If problems occurred during patch downloading in automatic mode during installation, you can download patches in manual mode; they are located here.

Once the client meets the requirements (i.e., has the latest version), the game server connection menu will launch.



You need to select a group of servers; currently, only the Kingdoms group is available, so that's the one to choose.

The next step is the actual selection of the server (currently there are Erathia and Eoful), entering the account identifier issued during registration at the very beginning (Account ID), and the password entered during registration.



Click the "Play" button, connection to the server begins, data processing, and so on...

After that, the following beautiful image appears.



You need to choose a city; currently there are as many as 8 cities, some of which are borrowed from Heroes of Might and Magic III, others from Heroes of Might and Magic V. Additionally, there is a mysterious, currently unavailable, city called Empire (apparently a tribute to the developers, as the city icon looks in the style of Chinese architecture).

• Dungeon (Dungeon from Heroes 5 and Dungeon from Heroes 3)
• Fortress (Fortress from Heroes 3)
• Inferno (Inferno from Heroes 5 and Inferno from Heroes 3)

• Rampart (Sylvan from Heroes 5 and Rampart from Heroes 3)
• Stronghold (Stronghold from Heroes 3)
• Tower (Academy from Heroes 5 and Tower from Heroes 3)

* - in parentheses are the castles from other parts of Heroes of Might and Magic from which the foundations of the castles in Heroes of Might and Magic Online were drawn.



To proceed to the next stage, you need to click the "Next" button on one of the castle screens.

After deciding on a castle, you need to choose a hero. For each castle, general hero models are the same; they differ only by coat of arms and calling, which is usually either "sword" or "magic", and in turn, this burden is held either in male or female hands.



Click on one of the heroes and you will enter the name entry form and hero avatar selection. The developers have worked hard and provided the player with a huge number of avatars for both male and female characters (4 sets of avatars, each of which is also multi-page).



After entering the name and choosing an avatar, click the final button "Create Your Character", after which a short video will be shown that will lead us into the wonderful land of "Heroes of Might and Magic Online".



After landing on the ground, there will be several introductory quests that will explain the basic principles of the game. At first, your hero will move automatically through all introductory quests; you only need to read the messages and follow the instructions, then the auto-movement function can be disabled.

Currently, only the Erathia server is active in the game. The Eoful server has been closed for several months, and all users from it have been transferred to the first server, as there were not enough people on the second server. So, it remains in the list just for show.

Currently, the game is in Open Beta status (and this status is unlikely to change in the near future). According to the game developer's (TQ) agreement with the copyright holder (Ubisoft), only users with an Asian IP address are allowed to play.

The following countries are considered Asian:

All other users are blocked by IP address. This means that when they launch the game after entering their login and password, they receive an error message, usually: Sorry, only the player with IP in Asia can login (or in some cases Disconnected from the server. Please login again).

In this regard, the only effective way is to use Asian proxies to bypass the IP block.

Instructions for setting up and using Proxifier:

1. Everything you need is in the "Options" menu. Open the first item - "Proxy settings" and click "Add...". In this list (or on other similar sites), find a proxy with the "SOCKS5 - HIA" label (a proxy with high anonymity) or HTTP and copy its address and port into the program window. In the "Protocol" field, select "SOCKS Version 5". Before clicking "OK", click "Check". If all three stages of testing pass in a few seconds, accompanied by a green highlight of the text, then the proxy is working and you can add it to the list. However, sometimes you may also see a message like "20% of packages was lost" in the third stage of testing. This indicates that the proxy is working unstablely and some of the transmitted information is lost. Such proxies are not recommended. In addition, it is better to choose proxies with a lower latency, less than 400 milliseconds.

2. The "proxification" rules are in the "Options" menu, item "Proxification rules". By default, the option "Process All except the following" is set (i.e., all connections through a proxy, except those in the list). And there is a checkmark on the rule named "Loopback". Select the option "Process Only the following", i.e., connection through a proxy only for the specified rules. Create a new rule ("Add..."), naming it, for example, "HoMM Online". Then, in the rule window, click "Add..." in the "Applications" section. A window opens with a file explorer, using which we go to the folder with Heroes and select the files HeroOnline.exe, AccountBind.exe, AutoP.exe, AutoPRestart.exe, play.exe and TimeDelay.exe there. In the "Port Range" field, enter the value 9967 (this is the port through which the connection to the game's authorization server passes). If the port is specified, proxification will only be used for game applications and only for the connection to the authorization server (which checks whether your IP is Asian or not). The connection to the game server will pass without using a proxy, which will allow you to play with good speed and a stable connection. After adding a new rule, leave the checkmark on it, and remove the checkmark from "Loopback".

3. The program will use the proxies from the list you created, the ones you mark with a checkmark. It is best to use one proxy, the most stable of all, leaving the rest as a backup. Keep in mind that free proxy servers only work for a while, so you need to periodically test the proxies in your list for functionality (using the same "Check" button), deleting non-working ones and adding new ones. The proxies that have successfully passed the preliminary test should also be checked for real data transfer speed using a suitable website. To do this, you need to temporarily set a checkmark on the "Loopback" setting so that all connections, including the browser, connect through the proxy. After checking the proxy speed through the browser, remove the checkmark from the "Loopback" item.

That's all. A properly configured Proxifier will allow you to use a proxy only for the game authorization procedure. After logging into the game, you can safely close or restart the program, add and test new proxies, etc.

A few additional notes.

1. In the example above, a link is given to a list of Chinese proxies, but if there are no working Chinese proxies, you can try using proxies from other Asian countries that are on the "whitelist".

2. To avoid questions about whether the server or your proxies are not working, there is a page to check the server status:

3. Keep in mind that you may receive a false message that the server is under maintenance if the proxy you are using is working unstablely or has stopped working altogether, so when you receive such messages and cannot connect to the game server, first check the functionality of the proxy. If the connection to the proxy server is unstable, then testing may sometimes pass successfully and sometimes give an error. In such cases, it is also worth looking for more stable proxies.

4. Also, remember that every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 5:00 AM (Moscow time), the server is shut down for technical maintenance (the so-called reset). This is accompanied by a forced termination of any game missions for all players and a five-minute countdown to the start of maintenance. After that, the server is usually unavailable for about 15-20 minutes. Accordingly, if you left your character in online training overnight, you will only be able to return it to training by logging in again after the maintenance.

There is no Russian localization, and there won't be one.
But don't be afraid to play the online game in English, as there is a large Russian-speaking community and a detailed forum in Russian. You can always get help and learn everything you need to know, and over time, you will be able to easily navigate the game yourself.
