Mages appeared from all the previous races: the wisest and most powerful mages separated from their kin and went into the deserts, not wanting to be followers of any of the dragons. A sect of necromancers broke away from the mages. Mages mixed the blood of humans and demons, and orcs appeared. Dark elves, the Tuidhana, broke away from the elves. This is how the eight main races came to be.

This image showcases just a small part of the warriors from the game "Might and Magic VI" (or maybe VII, I don't remember). The creature numbered 8 served as the prototype for the Kirin, it looks very similar.
