I wasn't good at foreign languages, and if someone like you had taught me, it definitely wouldn't have had a positive impact. But seriously, the current education reform in Russia won't lead to anything good.

Actually, Saint Petersburg was named in honor of the apostle Peter! Saint Petersburg translates to "Saint Peter."

I had the pleasure of seeing the following in a social studies textbook: "Man is certainly a great being, but none of his organs can surpass the complexity of the sucking apparatus of a bedbug."

p.s. the human brain is much more complex... and the sucking apparatus has been studied inside and out.

I've been reading our modern history textbooks, and it's appalling! They can be divided into two groups: visually appealing but unpleasant to read, and simply unpleasant to even hold. It feels like history is being written by people who have only a superficial understanding of it, gleaned from the same textbooks. Everyone lies as much as they can. And these are supposedly serious people, like Academician Sakharov (lots of boasting, but little knowledge). I recently read: "Temujin's father (who later became Genghis Khan) was a khan of one of the Mongol tribes." This is like calling Ilya Muromets an emperor. Or further: "There were about 100,000 Mongols (referring to the army)." On the next page:

"There were about 100,000 Mongols (referring to the army)." On the next page, "a four-hundred-thousand-strong Mongol army." That's some serious reproduction speed!

Well, never mind... As far as I know, the Mongols learned a lot from the Chinese... ;) :rolleyes: :D

They love to lie in textbooks. Or, for example, we were discussing the holiday on November 4th at work. There are guidelines for teachers on how to explain it. There's so much written there... And then the children don't understand what's what. Fortunately, the older the history, and especially if it doesn't directly concern us, the less they lie. I'm lucky that I'll be teaching ancient history. India, China.
