A contest to determine the best mapmakers' works, "Cartmaster 2011," is launching across three resources: Heroes World, Heroes Portal, and AG.

REGULATIONS FOR THE "CARTMASTER 2011" CONTEST

1. Goals of the contest

1.1. Popularization of the game Heroes of Might and Magic 5.
1.2. Creation of a new map database for the game Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Tribes of the East.
1.3. Providing an opportunity for beginner and experienced mapmakers to receive recognition, evaluation of their work, and financial reward.

2. Timeline for the "Cartmaster 2011" contest (due to certain circumstances, these dates are currently INVALID and serve only as a guideline for how much time will be allocated to each stage of the contest. Regards, Ment)

until May 25, 2011 – registration of contest participants;
from May 26, 2011 – start of map creation for the contest;
July 26, 2011 – end of map creation for the contest;
from May 26 to July 26, 2011 – submission of completed maps;
July 26, 2011 – final deadline for map submission;
July 28, 2011 – posting of maps on forums and opening of voting for forum visitors;
August 25, 2011 – closing of voting;
August 27, 2011 – announcement of results and awarding of winners.

3. Contest Categories

3.1. Multiplayer map.
3.2. Single-player map.

Each participant is entitled to submit one or two maps for the contest. If there are two maps, then one per category: 1 "Multiplayer" map; 1 "Single-player" map.
To participate in the contest, an application must be sent by May 12 inclusive to the addresses bforio@yandex.ru and nickelprog@mail.ru using the "Application Form":

ATTENTION! If a user is registered on several forums (out of three: Heroes World, Heroes Portal, ag forums), all should be listed along with the nickname for each.
ATTENTION! Only those works (maps) whose creators sent applications in a timely manner and according to the form will participate in the contest!

4. Mandatory requirements for contest maps

4.1. Multiplayer map:
- map for game version 3.1 Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Tribes of the East;
- map must be created personally by you;
- map must not have co-authors;
- maps that have already participated in contests or tournaments will not be accepted;
- maps made using a map generator will not be accepted;
- only 1 map per participant is accepted in this category;
- presence of a legend (description) for the map;
- absence of any direct indication of authorship in any file within the map archive.

4.2. Single-player map
- map for game version 3.1 Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Tribes of the East;
- map must be created personally by you;
- map must not have co-authors;
- maps that have already participated in contests or tournaments will not be accepted;
- maps made using a map generator will not be accepted;
- only 1 map per participant is accepted in this category;
- presence of a legend (description) for the map;
- absence of any direct indication of authorship in any file within the map archive.

ATTENTION! In case of non-compliance with the listed requirements, the organizers (Ser9K, Ment) reserve the right not to admit or to exclude a map from participating in the contest!

5. Important evaluation criteria for maps
5.1. Multiplayer map
- the map should not be oversaturated with map editor objects (the map must run without lagging on an average PC);
- the map must be playable (completion speed of the map in game and real time based on map size, speed of computer opponent moves);
- presence of territorial and resource balance between all participants of the multiplayer map, thoughtfulness and strength of neutral monsters and the computer opponent (the map should have difficulty level gradations so that it is interesting to players of various levels).
5.2. Single-player map
- the map should not be oversaturated with map editor objects (the map must run without lagging on an average PC);
- the map must be playable (completion speed of the map in game and real time based on map size, speed of computer opponent moves);
- the map should contain an interesting plot, non-linear completion options, mini-quests, etc.;
- thoughtfulness of the placement and strength of neutral monsters and the computer opponent (the map should have difficulty level gradations so that it is interesting to players of various levels).

6. Submission of completed maps

Submission of completed maps will take place from May 13 to July 26, 2011, at the address bforio@yandex.ru (copy to nickelprog@mail.ru). You must send the map (map name in Latin letters) and the "MAP SUPPLEMENT" to the specified address.

7. Map Evaluation

Map evaluation will take place via voting by site visitors from July 28 to August 25, 2011. Furthermore, maps will be evaluated without their authorship being revealed; thus, visitors will be able to vote for a specific map rather than its author.
Votes must be sent by email to the organizers (bforio@yandex.ru and nickelprog@mail.ru) in the following format:

ATTENTION! If a user is registered on several forums (out of three: Heroes World, Heroes Portal, ag forums), all should be listed along with the nickname for each.

Additionally, all maps participating in the contest will be subjectively evaluated by the organizers (Ser9K, Ment).

8. Awarded Places

8.1. "Multiplayer map" category - winner (determined by forum visitors' vote):
Awarded – Honorary same-category winner cup for "Multiplayer map" of the "Cartmaster 2011" contest (placed under the avatar on HeroesWorld), as well as a monetary reward in the amount of 1000 руб.

8.2. "Single-player map" category - winner (determined by forum visitors' vote):
Winner – Honorary same-category winner cup for "Single-player map" of the "Cartmaster 2011" contest (placed under the avatar on HeroesWorld), as well as a monetary reward in the amount of 1000 руб.

8.3. Additionally, from all maps participating in the contest, the organizers (ser9K, Ment) will choose the best map according to each of them in categories "From Ser9K" and "From Ment". The winner of the "From Ser9K" as well as "From Menta" category of the "Cartmaster 2011" contest will be awarded a specially developed "Badge of Distinction" (placed under the avatar on HeroesWorld), as well as a monetary reward in the amount of 1000 руб.

Thanks, Skull. I'm just afraid that even if we participate (which would be a bit strange, I've never seen organizers participate in a contest), the maximum number of maps will be three. For four nominations... This year, interest in mapmaking has waned significantly, so if we don't decide to extend the deadline, the contest won't take place :(

You've chosen a rather inconvenient time to hold this contest. Everyone is busy with exams and the semester is ending...

That’s why map submissions are open until the end of July, so people definitely have a month to participate.

And after that, where can I find all these maps?

Unfortunately, the contest was canceled due to an insufficient number of entries. Also, Ser9K hasn't been responding lately, and I won't take any action without him. I can only say this: if anyone still wants to participate, they can submit their entry even now. If the number of participants becomes reasonably acceptable, the deadlines will be extended while maintaining the map creation time. If we're lucky (but I'm not really counting on it), the maps will be posted right here (as was the case last year with mish-gan's contest).

Oh, I'll register now, but I have to say, there might not be any results. I only create maps when I feel inspired, and sometimes I have the inspiration but no time, or vice versa, or I have the inspiration but I'm just not in the mood. So, I might send a map tomorrow, or I might never. That's the situation.
Yes, I almost forgot the most important thing! Do you post maps separately? I mean, multiplayer maps and non-multiplayer maps, or all together?

Damn, I can't register, at least not today. I can't send messages to these addresses. The internet connection setup wizard pops up, and it wants something from me. I don't feel like figuring out what it wants right now (it's too late). I'll sort it out tomorrow and register.

Everything regarding the rules (including nominations) is in the first post (with adjustments for deadlines; the old ones are no longer relevant). You can register, but don't rush to submit maps until further notice, if there even will be one. I think we'll post the maps in one archive, but players will need to evaluate them separately. That's the plan...

It would be better to start in the fall. And finish by winter, so you can announce who the best mapmaker of the year is at the end of the year.

And how do I make a signature appear at the bottom of each post? Because I create a signature, but it only appears in my profile. Can I put a link to this thread in the signature, with a message like: "Attention! Registration for the mapmaking contest has been extended." Because I think people just don't see the thread. As for your signature not showing, it's probably because the "Show signature" checkbox at the bottom of the message editor isn't checked.
