I don't know how much one has to love fantasy to read this completely... or at least have extraordinary patience.
And I don't see any genius in Tolkien himself. Apart from The Hobbit, there's nothing else to note.
Don't attribute The Silmarillion to Tolkien. After his death, his son collected all the unfinished drafts of future books, somehow pieced them together with a common plot, and published them.
Did the son take his mother's or wife's last name?
All posthumous editions were published under the editorship of the writer's son, Christopher Tolkien.
