Because Heroes Kingdom tells the story of events after Dark Messiah. The authors wanted to tell about the past, the origins of the events of Heroes V."
Not entirely on topic, but since this is constantly referenced, maybe someone could shed some light on the plot of Heroes Kingdom or point us to where we can find it!!!"
This passage is a bit unclear to me. What does "they made a choice for me" mean? There are always several options available (to be precise, 4), and you can always choose one of them. Moreover, I sometimes enjoyed giving a Knight from Haven (well, a secondary one, as an experiment) some negative skills and abilities, like dark magic. Sometimes, the combinations turned out to be very good. And also: there is a mentor on the maps in Heroes 5 (I think that's what it's called) - you can exchange skills for other ones with him, in the end.
You still have to find the mentor, and he's not available everywhere. Sometimes, important skills take a long time to appear, and they offer some useless ones instead. I had cases where Chaos magic didn't appear for a Warlock until level 20.

Random skills were still important parts of the game. Now you can immediately calculate the skill tree and create a super-powerful character, which isn't very cool. Also, I don't approve of the mass introduction of RPG elements.
No, it's not a convenient skill progression system in Heroes of Might and Magic V (even compared to Heroes of Might and Magic III). It's rare to be able to develop any worthwhile skill combos to their full potential. I think a free (branching) choice would have been better.
Earned some points, made it to the castle, and learned one spell – that’s fun.
It seems like spells are learned like perks, and there won’t be any guilds at all. Which is a good thing, I don’t like it when the entire game can depend on a random set of spells in a guild, for example, either a devastating shock of earth or a useless armageddon.

You simply have skill points, and you can use them to buy spells in the magic schools when you level up.
If by "school" you mean some kind of building, then it will probably be located on the map, and you need to go to it to buy spells.
If "school of magic" is one of the schools of magic, then you immediately choose a spell, but this seems absurd to me. How can you use the same points to first upgrade light magic and then choose spells for it? I don't know.

I used to only develop a hero for armageddon; a large army comes to you, and after the 3rd armageddon, the army is no longer capable of anything. HE-HE.
It seems there was a calm before the storm :). They released three screenshots at once. The first one, I think, was already shown – a screenshot from the editor. The second one is much more interesting. Firstly, it shows the Orcish castle. It also resembles the similar castle from "Heroes of Might and Magic V" – the same tents, the same head of some animal on top, but now the main building is not in the form of a tent, but a quite fundamental one – made of stone. Secondly, who found the rabbit on the screenshot, which is mentioned in the description :)? I didn't notice it :(.
The third screenshot didn't impress me either. A lone knight stands on a bridge near a waterfall. The only thing is that he looks different, not like the previous knights. Perhaps, before, they showed us the main heroes, and now – an "average" knight? Or vice versa :p.
Added 8 minutes later I found the rabbit :)! He is lying in a pile of resources  behind the castle :)!
2Winner: I saw the screenshot from the editor back in January, and the Chinese New Year was on February 2nd. Only the first one, with the knight on the bridge, is actually new. Today's screenshot is amusing. The comment accompanying it explains a lot about the story.
