I also decided to install my favorite Shades of Darkness on Windows 7, and I got a message saying that "the installer detected that Service Pack 4 is not installed on your computer."
In general, the solution is simple: right-click on the setup file, select "Troubleshoot Compatibility," and choose Windows XP SP2. Windows 7 will do this automatically, and everything will start up normally (you need to wait until the end of the intro and animation during the first launch). Also, it crashes occasionally, but rarely, so leave autosave enabled in the game settings.
Hello everyone. I've encountered a problem: I borrowed Heroes 3 (complete edition) from a friend, didn't install it, but copied the folder. When I launch it, it's difficult (sometimes it shows a black screen with a cursor and freezes), but I fixed the problem by setting compatibility with Windows 2000. I launched it, started playing, and then the problem occurred: when loading the next week (skipping a turn on the 7th day of the week), the game freezes, and I can't do anything. I tried disabling sound acceleration, but it didn't help. Please help me solve this problem.
Good morning/afternoon/evening. I recently felt nostalgic, took out the disc for "The Restoration of Erathia", installed it, but the game won't launch. It displays an error message: "Unable to initialize resources - there may be problems with the disc." The disc is a licensed copy from "Buki." What could be causing this?
If you're using Windows 7 (and I suspect that's the case – it's a source of problems), try compatibility mode. Run the game in that mode. And by the way, I wasn't talking about Heroes Chronicles; I meant the Platinum Collection.
I realized that we were talking about the collection, not the Chronicles. I just haven't played them, so I decided to download them.
Regarding the operating system, unfortunately, I have Windows XP. I would have figured out how to deal with Windows 7 somehow.
And about the registration – I don't know how that happened. I don't think I registered here, but I have a profile.
Regarding the OS – unfortunately, I have XP, but I would somehow figure out how to deal with Windows 7.
On the contrary: XP is a blessing, because installing "Heroes" and other relatively "old" games on Win'7 causes much more trouble! :) And in general, "Windows 7" is a more "peculiar beast" compared to XP. :)

I recently bought a laptop. I want to get Heroes 3. Either the Platinum Edition or The Shadow of Death. I read a thread here and I'm afraid it won't work on my 64-bit Windows 7. Can you tell me what version of Heroes is sold in stores? Will it need to be patched?
Hello everyone. I suddenly started having problems with Heroes 3. Everything was running fine, I was playing online, but one day I launched the game and couldn't play. Just a black screen with a static cursor. By changing the settings in the HD mod and enabling compatibility with Windows 98, I was finally able to get into the game, but when I try to connect to TCP/IP, it freezes. I have Windows XP. Everything works fine in safe mode. Everything works fine on a backup OS. When I ran a DirectX diagnostic, I found this image Could this be the root of the problem, and if so, how can I fix it?
