Scene two.
The Stablehand Tolikandro leaves the tavern; he wants to get home quickly to alleviate the feeling of dread that haunts him. In front of the tavern, he stumbles upon the corpse of a hundred-year-old man, whom the stablehand barely recognizes as the madman Xostor. Just killing the villain wasn’t enough for him – he left Xostor without an ear, and placed a Pierrot doll next to him, but the doll was painted unusually – in red and black colors. This sight makes the stablehand feel even worse, and he runs home with all his might. Someone has attached a notice to the door of his house:
