I finally decided to figure it out. It turns out the problem is with StarForce; because of it, the game doesn't launch on SP2. I need a nocd; can you tell me where to find one?

Maybe the volume label is causing a problem? When booting, ScanDisk pops up and says: "Volume label is..." - and then there are some incomprehensible symbols. The label is for the drive where the games are installed. But other games work.

I have the same issue! I played it about six months ago, and now... black screen and nothing happens.

Does the computer boot? If it boots (the hard drive spins, the lights blink...), then the problem is most likely with the monitor. If it doesn't boot, does it make any sounds (beeps) when turned on? If it beeps, then either the memory, video card, or motherboard is not working. If it doesn't beep and loads the setup, then the problem is with loading the operating system. This is a hard drive issue. Perhaps the active disk partition has been changed, or there are bad sectors, or the files have been corrupted... There are many possibilities. But everything can be fixed, except for physical hardware failure, in which case only replacement is possible.

A friend brings over a hard drive, and it's connected. If everything starts up, then the problem is with the software. If not, then you need to figure out what hardware component failed and replace it.
