Posts from - Tactics skill in Heroes 3.
Thank you very much for your answers. I will definitely keep them in mind.
By the way, the example you showed demonstrates how to capture the Angel dwelling on week 1!
Without a specific tactic, this would be impossible.
I don't really like this skill; it's only important for secondary heroes and not for all castles.

I never liked tactics until someone explained it to me. Now I think it's a very interesting skill!
One of the advantages of tactics is that you can easily defeat even Phoenixes in your own castle without much effort.
I read the thread and was amazed by some of the outdated views! I thought that only "green" newbies needed to be convinced of the value of tactics!..
All players who do not understand the usefulness of Tactics are prescribed a special course of treatment – a series of games for Shahti on random maps.
The effectiveness of the course is more than 90 percent.
Side effects: a sharp increase in skill level.
Everyone has their own Kung Fu. Battles will show which school was better... but I think that every Shahtist would gladly set up chess pieces before the battle.
Do you still not appreciate tactics? Then we're coming after you! :) With tactics! We will fight with you "with earth and water" and win! :)
To particularly stubborn tacticophobes :) I offer my save file from the final battle for Mirktown (the "Against Death" campaign, /topic/at/332903/ scenario 5). Given: I have a cool mage Erish with dragons of all kinds and titans. Enemy - Emperor: mixed Necropolis-Inferno guard. Required: to win! I enter the castle anticipating a quick victory. And the Emperor has expert tactics + constant fire shield! The beginning of the battle: the enemy builds his troops outside the castle, and then... DARKNESS!!!... :( I replayed it many times, but only won once, and even then – barely...
Just keep in mind: I played Heroes, not SoD! In SoD, many things are different, even the formation before the battle (see screenshots: on the left - Heroes, on the right - SoD).

Skillful positioning of Archers is the first plus, practically a replacement for Haste - the second, and more extensive combat options.
Before, when playing, I didn't like tactics, considering the ability to be useless. Now I really like it; for Warriors who haven't received Air/Earth magic, it's a must.
I have no doubt that tactics is the most valuable skill in the game. I won't repeat what has already been said about tactics, but I would like to note one thing: only with tactics can wizards defeat a Fortress, and there is no other way.
In turn, I will say that tactics are not a necessary skill for a wizard, especially for a basic or a well-developed character. NOT NECESSARY. Arranging troops to take a Fortress with a wizard is, in my opinion, nonsense. A Ballista is even more useful, although I rarely take it as a skill.
