Right now, I'm reading "The Tower of the Swallow" by Andrzej Sapkowski, the second-to-last book in the "Witcher" series. My enthusiasm for the series is evident from the topic I created and my signature. Some might find the series a bit repetitive, and it is, but for me, as a fan, that's actually a plus. I recommend everyone read at least the first book in the series, a collection of short stories (perhaps the most interesting one). If my memory serves me correctly, it's called "The Last Wish."
O God of Earth and Altar, Bow down and hear our cry, Our earthly rulers falter, Our people drift and die, The walls of gold entomb us, The swords of scorn divide, Take not thy thunder from us, Take away our pride.
My memory doesn't fail me. ;) The collection of short stories consists of two books: The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. Right now, I'm playing a game based on the same source material and I'm amazed at how accurately the ideas from the book are conveyed... And that's not surprising, considering that Sapkowski himself was involved in the development.
Small, The Silmarillion is more of a "bible" of Middle-earth than an adventure fantasy. IMHO, it's for those who appreciate it. P.S... I'm being slow...
the other day I watched the movie "Inhabited Island" - I liked it, it has a good plot and philosophy. So, I was wondering if anyone has read this work by the Strugatsky brothers, because after watching the movie, I felt like reading the book - I can only imagine how good the book must be if such a movie was made. I'd like to hear your opinions about the book.
I have read the entire "Guardian of Swords," "Ring of Darkness," and "Chronicles of Hyervard" series by Perumov. Also, Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings," "The Silmarillion" (which I managed to get through), and "The Hobbit." I also enjoy classics from the school curriculum. I like Bulgakov, Mandelstam, and other classics of the Silver Age. P.S. Does anyone know where I can download the book "When the Sun Was a God"?
Тому, кто сражается с монстрами, нужно сильно постараться, чтобы самому не превратиться в монстра. Клан "Вершители Асхана" - "Masters of Ashan"
Among the new releases, I enjoyed "Anti-Suvorov" by A. Isaev. The author analyzes Suvorov-Rezun's theory and describes in detail the tactics and strategy of the Wehrmacht, explaining the secret of the blitzkrieg. It is intended for a wide range of readers interested in the history of World War II. The epigraph to the book is a quote by K. Clausewitz: "Warfare is simple and perfectly accessible to the sound mind of man. But to wage war is complex."
Военное дело просто и вполне доступно здравому уму человека. Но воевать сложно.
I found a series of books in the regional library. About Vikings. I've already read the collections "Mead of Poetry" and "Maidens of Battle," and I'm about to start "Frithiof the Bold," "Legacy of the Kings," and "Eric, Son of Man."
"Eric, son of a man." A Christianized fairy tale about Scandinavian mythology with a classic happy ending and a moral about the dangers of alcohol. It's not worth reading, even for the sake of gaining basic mythological knowledge – the mythology is sometimes inaccurate, incomplete, or embellished. Thor, throwing Mjolnir while shouting "With God's help!" is just ridiculous.

"The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. It's a book you can read in one sitting. It makes you genuinely laugh and leaves a good impression for a long time. I recommend it.

I read "The Rough Draft" by Lukyanenko.
It's a good book. I read "The Draft," the first book in the series, quite a while ago and had already forgotten some things, but that's not the point. It's a detached kind of work, as always in Lukyanenko's style, with a lot of criticism and a look at things from different perspectives.
In short, there's not much to tell.
Vistritchka recommends it!

I completely forgot to share with you, friends, about the book from which my nickname was taken. "The Religion" is the first book in Tim Willocks' trilogy about Matthias Tangezer. In general, the main part of the plot takes place in Malta, around the city-fortress of the Religion (as far as I understand, it was a knightly order), besieged by a Turkish army. It is worth noting the completely open narrative in terms of the literary language in which it is presented - quite cruel and realistic moments are described. There is a vivid, pathos-filled description of the battles. What can be said about the main character? He is excellent with all kinds of melee and firearms, an EXCELLENT ALCHEMIST, MERCHANT, SPY, SCOUT, LADIES' MAN, LOVER, well, you get the idea (oh, I should have just rewritten the description of this character for the expedition, then he could have performed any role). In the end, this disappointed me a little. Oh yes, the only thing he can't do is SWIM. Overall, if you don't pay attention to this minor flaw, the book is very interesting and engaging.
Stephen King, "The Green Mile." I hadn't read anything by him before. I also hadn't seen the movie adaptation. This genre isn't really my thing. It's a blend of the horrors of our reality with some kind of mysticism. I decided to give it a try. It took me quite a while to get into it, to get used not only to the style but also to the plot. It's, to put it mildly, quite specific. It's about a prison for inmates sentenced to death. Before this, I had only read about such places once, in Solzhenitsyn's works. But compared to Solzhenitsyn's camps, the American prison is definitely a walk in the park. Even for death row inmates... In the end, the book drew me in, and I was already ready to give up. It even became interesting. But I didn't get much enjoyment out of it. Which is what I expected. Just your typical mainstream novel, with the bare minimum of food for thought... unfortunately.
Before reading the book, I really wanted to. Afterwards, not so much, but maybe someday... And I don't really like Hanks... he's still just Forrest to me.
By the way, I also don't feel like reading anything else by King. Although I've heard that the "Dark Tower" series is supposedly good. Maybe someone has read it and can share their opinion?
I read "The Good Soldier Švejk" by Jaroslav Hašek in 6 days. In my opinion, the book is brilliant, it's a pity the author didn't manage to finish it.
