I still use IE7 because some websites work correctly only with it, and Opera is my backup option, just in case. I find the interface of IE more convenient, so I continue to use it. I even participated in discussions in this thread for some time :) But that was a long time ago, and I think I've become wiser since then.
The funny thing is that I consider Firefox to be the best browser – ultimately, it's more stable than both IE and Opera.

Ha! I even remember having a bunch of windows open on my taskbar when I used IE, I think version 6 (or whatever the default was in XP SP2?). I didn't even think about alternatives, and when I did, I was quite skeptical. Later, partly influenced by Vaishan, I switched to Opera, and a little later to Firefox. I still use it.

Exactly, that's why I love Opera - it's number one in terms of the number of possible settings; absolutely everything can be customized. In the address bar, enter opera:config, and you'll see a couple of hundred (!) different settings. By the way, somewhere (Google knows) there's even a detailed explanation of all the options in Russian. Amarantha
Nah, Firefox is just faster.
But I can't agree with that: Firefox probably isn't inferior to Opera in speed, but it's not faster either; however, it uses twice as little RAM. People who appreciate various convenient features and plugins love Firefox because no other browser can compare to it in this regard. And regarding simplicity - you haven't seen my Opera - there's only a tab bar, address bar, and search bar - nothing else is needed because everything else can be successfully controlled with the keyboard;) And on the topic, recently I've started to appreciate the beauty of a console browser - that's the fastest one;)

I think it also depends on the settings - I currently have two windows open in Opera, one with 10 tabs and the other with 5. In total, it uses about 60 MB of RAM.

I used to use Opera, then switched to Mozilla Firefox, and there are no more slowdowns. I keep hearing that Explorer has a lot of security vulnerabilities:)
The resource consumption of the fire fox also depends on the installed plugins...
I have never had problems installing various extensions, because a browser should be a browser and not a combine, IMHO.
By the way, there is a good browser on the Gecko engine (Firefox is also based on it), called K-Meleon, has anyone used it? I tried it once, and I liked it more than Firefox, but less than Opera. I recommend trying it out if anyone is interested;
Opera is the fastest; while other browsers send packets back and forth, Opera has its own server where everything is done automatically, and it's much faster, at least that's how it works on mobile Opera. And still, I got hooked on Opera, and I can't seem to quit it; I'm so used to it, and I've used Mozilla, Donkey, Green, and even the newest one. Google...
