Greetings everyone!

I decided to raise the question about the skills a Hero learns during the game! Firstly, I'd like to know who has what preferences for certain skills, and secondly, how can you control the learning process and learn what you need!?

Again, what I'm going to write in this thread is my opinion, and I might be wrong... Perhaps experienced players reading this will smile and think—what’s there to not understand, what to learn... So this topic is mostly dedicated to newcomers, but I'd like to get some interesting advice from experienced players!;)

Time and again after a battle, I check how the enemy hero was doing—what level they are and what they learned! Sometimes a person wastes effort on something they'll never need... and that's how they end up with an FB result.
Personally, my core skills are—Logistics, Offense, and Earth Magic—those are what I learn immediately and at the first opportunity... then I try to learn Defence, Wisdom... then whatever my heart desires.
If we take the 2SM4d(3) template—things usually get resolved quickly there, within a few weeks... During that time, a hero can learn differently, but somewhere around level (10-15) (depending on what's available at the respawn, maybe more)... so within those 10-15 levels, you need to try to learn everything necessary!!!
Personally, I always tried to learn something mass-oriented, something that would affect all your troops rather than just one monster... For example, playing as Hive—(IMHO) I always take Alkin—because he has, in my opinion, more advantages! For instance, Wystan—he's certainly a strong warrior + has piercing from the very start if you get shooters... but how necessary is the Archery skill for Hive?? There's only one shooter there, and not a high-level one at that... and you'd have to spend as many as 2 levels on Archery... + it's unknown how the game will go and how many shooters you'll have in your army by FB...
Tazar—an excellent warrior, and I would always take him if not for one BUT—when I start leveling him, he mostly gets junk—at level 2 they offer either Expert Armorer and Artillery (as sometimes happens when I take him), and at level 3 it's up to luck, they might give Ballistics (which, in my opinion, won't play any role when playing against an equal opponent...)
or they might give something good... it's all about luck and it's a matter of taste—whether to take him or not...
Alkin's advantages—Offense increases the damage of all creatures in the town + Defence is also needed... and as far as I've noticed, he doesn't really have problems with subsequent skills, they almost always give Earth, and if you're lucky, Logistics! + Gorgon specialty—which can be very helpful in FB, since with their special ability they can easily mow down level 7 monsters (these could be enemy Angels, for example, if you develop further...)

I also want to note another situation...—for example, playing as the same Alkin... when leveling up (let's say you're getting level 2), they offer you—Advanced Offense or Basic Wisdom, which would you take?? Personally, I would take Advanced Offense, because if there are no places on the map where you can learn something (Towns with magic up to level 5 or Pandora's Boxes that might contain good magic), then I think it won't be very useful... and if you take it, they'll keep offering it for leveling later... But if you take Advanced Offense—1st, you get a good bonus, and 2nd, there's a chance they'll offer something worthwhile from the other skills...
I think there's no need to talk about Logistics, since everyone understands that speed and tempo decide almost everything in the game!!!

For now, I think I've written everything I wanted, I'll be glad to learn something new, and I'd also like to know—which magic school do you prefer most?

Thanks everyone for your attention!!!:)

There was already a topic about magic…

Yes, but I don’t see any benefit from it… The discussion is very primitive – like “I like Luna; she has a wall of fire…” or something similar… There is no intelligent strategy for using magic…
Also, as I noticed, many players simply choose heroes based on which Castle they belong to, just because authoritative players are choosing those same heroes… And they don't even really know why they are being chosen…

It seems Wicc described hero development in detail.

As for the simplistic discussion, the entire Tactics section is 90% composed of such discussions. You can just scroll through it until you come across posts by Gunnar, Forrest, and Dirty-Player. No one has provided detailed information about magic, so there is room for newcomers to contribute.

Personally, I always try to learn something that is widely applicable and will affect all warriors, not just one monster... For example, when playing as the Swamp faction (in my opinion), I always choose Alkin because he has more advantages, in my opinion! For example, Vistan is a strong warrior and has good attack power from the beginning if archers are available... but how useful is the Archery skill for the Swamp faction? If there is only one archer, and not a very strong one... and you have to spend 2 levels on Archery... and it's also unknown how the game will progress and how many archers will be in the army by the Final Battle...
Also, as I noticed, many players simply choose heroes for a particular Castle just because they see that authoritative players are choosing those heroes... and they don't even really know why they are being chosen...
I'm curious, why do you choose Valeska instead of Sorcha, with her Attack skill that you like, when playing as the Castle faction?

I wonder why, when playing as Castle, you choose Valeska instead of, say, Sorcha, with an Attack that is dear to your heart? (c)Avern

I don't think it's worth comparing Castle and Swamp... that's a thread for another topic... I take Valeska because shooting is appropriate here since 1. Archers are a very good piercing force from the start, and the shooting skill will also be useful for fanatics... 2. Specifically, Valeska has +1 to archer speed, which provides an important tempo when breaking "cans" (especially when there's no upgraded stack), and 3. There are no other normal heroes for Castle besides her.

As for the primitive discussion, well, the entire Tactics section consists of such discussions 90% of the time; you can safely scroll until you come across posts by Gunnar, Forrest, and Dirty-Player. No one has written in detail about magic, so there is a field of activity for beginners as well.

His article is decent... But everything is laid out far too officially there...

I wonder, why when playing as Fortress, you choose Valeska instead of, say, Sorceress, with her Attack that you seem to like?
Sorceress is a very interesting option. In any case, she deserves close attention!

Yes, Kostya! Sorceress is good, but I'm sure that in the early game, no one will be better at clearing neutral creatures than Valeska!

But what makes you so confident? Valeska can come with 4 archers, and what then? And Sorcha always has spearmen, and they are quite strong, by the way. There are troops that don't shoot, spearmen, swordsmen, cavalry, for whom attack is useful. You can even skip building archers as an option....
Another option is Edrick! Defense is also good! Something like that.

I don't think it's worth comparing Castle and Swamp... it's like discussing it in another thread... I choose Valeska because ranged attacks are useful here, as 1. Archers are a very good offensive force from the start, and the ranged attack skill will also be useful for Fanatics... Valeska has +1 to the speed of archers, which is important when clearing out enemies (especially when you don't have a strong stack) and 3. There are no other decent heroes for the Castle besides her.
The article is good... but it's too official and detailed...
Everything that is said here about Valeska applies to Vistan as well.
Barbarians, Swamp creatures, and Demons will be better at fighting neutrals (and not only) than Valeska. This is from another article by Wicc: http://www.cyberfight.ru/site/columns/56/article_46476/

Why are you so sure? What if Valeska comes with 4 archers? And Sorceress always has pikemen, and they are quite strong, by the way. There are troops that don't shoot, like pikemen, swordsmen, and cavalry, for whom attack is useful. You can even choose not to build archers...
Another option is Edrick! His defense is also good! Something like that.

Let's just say that Valeska hasn't come with 4 archers against me even once, so it's always been good!

What do Swamp Creatures, Demons, etc. have to do with it? I was just saying that Valeska is great for the Castle. Other cities have their own heroes, and I don't want to compare them...
Vistan and Valeska differ in that Valeska's archers will always go first when taking a town, regardless of the hero's stats, if there isn't a stacked unit. Vistan only has fanatics in his own castle, and that's why he needs ranged units.

It seems everyone knows that there isn't a good way to choose a starting hero for Castle, so when the first opportunity arises, they pick the hero who appears in the tavern: Barbarian (Attack), Beastmaster (Defense), or Demon (Logistics – the highest chance of getting him). Similarly, when playing as Tower, it's very beneficial if Ivorn shows up.
Compare Nella and Thorosar; the former performs better in enclosed spaces (which, in my opinion, is more important), while Thorosar excels in open areas thanks to his Tactics skill (for example, he can defeat 19 Silver Pegasi on level 113). The first shot in a confrontation isn't that significant, it's more important to have archers in your reserve and to ensure that reserve is well-defended. And how will Waleska help her troops in the Hive?

Well, let's say instead of Valeska with 4 bows, Sorcha comes with 10 pokemon; will that be any easier? 1 stack is an inevitable evil in SoD, I probably really need to (and not only me ;) ) get it together and download TE light (or as they call it, SoD+ ;) )

Valeska will help her troops break through the Hive's defenses.
Silver Pegasi?
All Fortress tactics against Valeska in Factions begin with blocking the archers, and that's where they end.

Yes. At least I'll have a stack of spearmen who can break through the crypt.
