The first time, when I made an excursion from the Sanctuary over a long distance, and there were no enemies nearby, I led Isabelle to the treasure chamber, right opposite her Sanctuary, and grabbed the "Summon Phoenix" and "Heavenly Shield" spells there, although I couldn't teach them to Markel, and Isabelle could only summon (initially) 1 phoenix in later battles.
