Also, in version 1.2 (it seems to have been fixed in subsequent patches), items can be improved/tamed by dying against them =) that is, we spread the entire army across the castles, take one weakling, enter the item, and die there, we appear in the central square, look in the bag - voila, the artifact is upgraded =)
