But we need to prove something.
It's better to be a boring nerd because:
a) They have a clear goal in life (Nobel Prize)
b) They can't get hit on the head for their musical tastes – because Wagner and Mozart are just the names of football players for many people.
c) Because they have a lot of extra pocket money – they don't drink beer.
d) Because gladiolus.

a) To finally get that damn award, you need to graduate from university a couple of times, become a graduate student (at least, preferably a candidate of sciences and a doctor), work for about 50 years in some laboratory, and then come up with a couple of minor improvements.

a) A mediocre student obviously spends less time studying, which means he has more time for other activities - at least one of them will not be from the category "Find a girl, get her drunk, scam some sucker out of a phone," but a really worthwhile activity that will bring him more benefits in the future than rote learning.
b) He has many friends (and you thought I wouldn't use that?), and he is unlikely to fall into depression or some other mental disorder - which can easily happen to an excellent student, and then all his studies will be in vain.
c) They are better developed physically - as they say, "A healthy mind in a healthy body."
d) And so on...

Now, my counter-arguments:
a) From your words, it follows that finding a girlfriend, etc., is a task for an excellent student, but this is far from the truth. What other things does a mediocre student spend their time on? It's good if they spend it on sports, but usually, they spend it on drinking alcohol.
b) A boring, excellent student doesn't have fewer friends – at least, the same mediocre students whom he lets copy his work.
c) I completely agree. An excellent student is raised like in a greenhouse, which often leads to the opposite result.

Of these things, an excellent student can only make metal and the third thing. A mediocre student can't do any of them because mediocre students usually listen to R&B and drum and bass, and they have problems with the third thing because an excellent student clearly knows how to protect himself, while a mediocre student doesn't always.
