Does your processor have two cores? If so, you can disable the second core/reconfigure the Windows core by changing it to a Uniprocessor core/through the Task Manager, force heroes.exe (or whatever it's called) to run on CPU0. That is, right-click on the process (not the window name, but heroes.exe) and select Set Affinity Mask. In the table, leave a checkmark only next to one processor (CPU0).

What's happening? Is it giving you any errors?:confused: It works for me, although it runs a bit slower.

Heroes 3 runs fine for me, without any errors, but it freezes in the main menu. What should I do? Maybe I should disable the firewall during installation, but I don't think that will help. Another idea is to try running the game in compatibility mode.

I can't install the third installment of "Heroes" (licensed version) on Vista... it says that Windows is outdated and requires Service Pack 4, meaning the installer thinks I have Windows 98 or something... I guess when I bought the third "Heroes," Vista wasn't even in development! Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Heroes 3, like many other games, doesn't work on Vista and won't work for a while... Install XP and play, or wait until Vista is fixed...
Maybe someone will create a version of Heroes that works on Vista...

Oh, man! =( That’s a shame… I’ve been playing Heroes 5 lately, and I was planning to play Heroes 3 again soon, as I haven’t played it in a while… and now this! Oh, man! =(

Under Vista, everything runs perfectly! No problems at all!!!
The only thing I had to do was, during the setup, specify compatibility with Windows XP! And then there were no more problems.

Could you provide more details about installing Heroes 3 on Vista?
It requires installing SP4 (presumably for NT)...:confused:

With Vista, it's simple: you either uninstall it right after installing it, or you don't install it at all... Everything worked fine for me, although it crashed sometimes.

Which version are you using? If it's The Shadow of Death, download patch 3.2.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem: the game doesn't launch under XP SP2. Previously, I played "Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia" under Windows XP SP1, and there were no issues. After buying a new computer and installing XP SP2, the game installs, but it can't be launched (or rather, it launches very rarely). The computer restarts almost immediately after launching the game. After this, an error 10005 appears in the system event log ("DCOM error: Service database is locked" when attempting to start the netman service with arguments "" to start the server: {BA126AE5-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}), and sometimes error 1003 (Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bfa93b6e, parameter3 b64aca04, parameter4 00000000). I tried to find an answer to this question online, but I couldn't. PLEASE HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEM (I really want to play). I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL.

Have you tried launching other games?
Perhaps you don't have DirectX installed?

I haven't tried other Heroes games, but everything is fine with the direct installation; it's installed correctly. I read in the forum that a patch might help, so I want to try it. Or I'll install the game from a different distribution. I'll write if there are any results.

Today, I spent time and installed Windows XP SP2 from scratch. The Heroes 3: The Restoration of Erathia game ran normally without any problems. I gradually installed drivers for the motherboard, video card, and sound card, installed the firewall and antivirus that I had before, and updated DirectX to rule them out. The game continued to run normally. It seems something was wrong with the system, and something was probably conflicting.

Reinstalling Windows helped, but only a little; the game still doesn't want to launch properly, meaning it can be launched successfully only once every two or three tries. THE QUESTION REMAINS OPEN. :(
