A crimson glow from the skies of the Hekkelian wastelands shone through the window into the study, giving it a somewhat ominous appearance. The furnishings were moderately lavish – the shelves were filled with various books, mostly on magical topics, while the walls were adorned with paintings of landscapes much more colorful than the current location of the study's owner. She herself, with her eyes closed and massaging her temples, sat in an armchair at her desk. The cause of the sorceress's state was the headline of a newspaper lying on the table – it stated that Isselia, by decision of the international community, had ceased to exist. Just like that, one decision – and an entire country was erased from the face of Vesteria. The capital of wizards, the beacon of magical knowledge, one of the main scientific centers of the continent – all of this was reduced to ashes in an instant, by the decision of a group of fearful ignoramuses. Fools did not understand, or did not want to understand, that the solution to the situation created by Aganto lay in magic and the study of new phenomena. Instead of solving the problems that arose, they simply looked for a scapegoat, sacrificing which they could achieve some semblance of peace. And all of them, in Lyndernia's opinion, more than deserved the consequences of the ritual performed by the King of Hekkelia.
No matter how terrible the ritual of Sharan Aganto was, for the young sorceress it became an enlightenment and an opportunity that it would be utterly foolish for her to miss. The study of new phenomena and, potentially, finding a way to deal with them was what she had been waiting for all this time – a way not only to glorify her name but also to honor the memory of her great ancestor. While her comrades rejoiced in their newfound wealth and, perhaps, were planning new military campaigns, Lyndernia used all the money earned in the service of Airisufir to gather like-minded people around her and, together with them, set off into the depths of the Hekkelian wastelands. Their goal was as risky as it was ambitious – to establish a base near the emerging anomalies in order to study them.
Despite all the possible dangers, Lyndernia's expedition was successful, and after weeks of wandering, her detachment was able to begin fulfilling its goal. But, as people in all corners of Vesteria began to turn against mages, the Moenian's original plan underwent certain changes. Driven by a desire to redeem themselves in the eyes of the public or to find a hidden corner for practicing their craft, more and more fugitive mages expressed a desire to join her group. Gradually, Lyndernia's research base grew into a settlement, and later into a city, named after its founder – Orphidium. And now, the local sorcerers were engaged not only in searching for a solution to the problems created by Sharan Aganto but also in other magical research. In Orphidium, a magical academy was even founded, albeit smaller than the one in Isselia. However, there were now fewer potential students. Despite this, there were always those who wanted to join, and Orphidium only strengthened its reputation as one of the few havens for those who wanted to study magic in peace and quiet.
Despite its location far from civilization, behind countless hordes of monsters and magical barriers erected by the sorcerers, Orphidium also occupied a certain niche in the market, mostly supplying research in the field of magic, monsters created by Aganto, and the practical application of anomalies. However, occasionally, among the supplies, one could find heart-stirring landscapes of the wastelands, as well as literature of a different kind. An example of such literature could be the tactical manuals on the use of mages written by Lyndernia, as well as a description of the enchanter techniques she developed using solar and lunar elements, which she collectively called "Antumbra." Unfortunately for the Moenian, her works not related to magic or anomalies did not gain widespread popularity and, therefore, found a place on the shelves only among a few enthusiasts and collectors.
Over time, Lyndernia even found a partner among other descendants of Esvald, whom she considered a worthy candidate for starting a family. Her chosen one was a little older than her, but shared the ideals and interests of the Moenian, as a result of which their union turned out to be happy and harmonious. There were no excessive passions in it, and even by the time their grandchildren appeared, the bonds connecting the couple remained as strong, if not even stronger. After all, with the years, the couple had fewer and fewer peers with whom they could talk on equal terms and remember the past.
Given that the attitude towards magic in the world changed only slightly over time, Lyndernia rarely left Orphidium, spending most of her time either with her family or with her research. And, despite the occasional longing for the landscapes of Vesteria, she found such a life quite pleasant and could not find new reasons for traveling. Although her homeland fell under the onslaught of monsters, and her beloved Isselia became a victim of someone else's ignorance, the sorceress found her place in the world, albeit far from prying eyes.
However, the Moenian was well aware that nothing lasts forever, and sooner or later either she herself would face death, or Orphidium, for one reason or another, would lie in ruins. Especially if someone manages to return the world to the state it was in before the Schism. In that case, if the attitude towards mages in Vesteria does not change, the sorcerers may again need to go into hiding. And, fearing the worst, Lyndernia prepared several possible plans to save the city's inhabitants. Only history will tell whether they will need to resort to such plans and whether they will be successful.
I've been meaning to write this for a long time, but I couldn't because I lacked lore information to resolve certain issues. But now, I finally have a moment to write it while the others are busy with the theatrical quest.
