The question is this: after browsing this forum, I discovered that the unforgettable Heroes 3 has many versions, there's something called WoG and SOD, and some versions like 3.58f (the number is just an example). Those who have experience, please explain the difference. Or, at the very least, recommend a version for playing online, we can even use Telnet. The very first Heroes 3 is called Restoration of Erathia, or ROE for short. It was followed by two official expansions: Armageddon's Blade, abbreviated as AB, and Shadow of Death, abbreviated as SOD. For online play, it's best to use the Shadow of Death version patched to 3.2 or the Platinum/Gold series of Heroes.
WOG, also known as In the Wake of Gods, is a fan-made mod for Heroes 3 SOD. The latest version of WOG is 3.58f. It adds a lot of features, but in my opinion, the original Heroes are better.
If I were you, I would start by playing The Restoration of Erathia, complete the campaign, then play The Shadow of Death, and finally Armageddon's Blade. After that, you can try WOG, but I think the regular versions are better.

Just get "The Shadow of Death" right away. It already includes the "The Restoration of Erathia" campaign (at least, that's the version I have). And "WoG" is entertainment for connoisseurs and hardcore fans of "Heroes".
I don't have the Erathia campaign in SoD; I have it in Armageddon's Blade. I think it's better to get all three parts. You'll be supporting your favorite game.

I finished the campaigns a long time ago, and I even upgraded my computer twice. It's been a very long time since I played Heroes 3. Heroes 5 came out, and I was disappointed. So, I decided to go back to Heroes 3.

SoD (The Shadow of Death) 3.2: patch 3.2 allows you to play with platinum users and fixes all bugs (glitches that dishonest people could take advantage of) WoG 3.58f (In the Wake of Gods): unofficial patch (starts from 3.5), currently the latest. Many enhancements, but it's not quite Heroes 3 anymore (in my opinion). Not very popular, but necessary when installing TE TE 1.03q (Tournament Edition): this is almost SoD, but the interface has been significantly improved, making life much easier for online players. But (again, my opinion) the game balance has been changed, many things are not in their place, and I don't like it. But there are still quite a few people playing on TE.

ewgeniy, how do I install In the Wake of Gods on Platinum? I downloaded In the Wake of Gods, but during installation, it says that a certain file is corrupted and lists about 6 files. Then, without noticing, it tries to install on The Restoration of Erathia (which I also have installed). I point it to Platinum, and it pretends to install. I launch it. Platinum remains Platinum, with only some icons changed. And a non-functional "In the Wake of Gods Options" button has been added. Should I extend The Restoration of Erathia? Or is In the Wake of Gods not compatible with Platinum?
