— I dare presume the outcome of the response will sweeten your request with satisfaction, my lord. — the lunar one nodded briefly. — A matter of knightly vow for the royal house shall render service of the highest virtue to the present and future times. When a measure of free time is even, the details of the upcoming plan ought to be clarified between us.
- A moment of freedom is at hand, my lady, yet the essence of my request is exceedingly simple: the prestige of Deus is largely defined by the achievements and personal qualities of those who lived in the era of his reign, and therefore for the glory of Her Splendor in the present and future, I yearn to inscribe upon the pages of history the lives of our comrades, so that not only their names and titles may be known to posterity. Unfortunately, however, my hands are occupied with affairs in the capital, and the great volume of duties does not permit such distractions.
— I have heard tell of a secret book that commits knightly deeds of an era to the judgment of posterity's gaze for triumph. Yet history knows that chroniclers hold the pages. And so I must ask you directly, my lord: is it only the retelling of the worthiest of the best that you value for the light of prestige, or the smiles of truth shed upon each comrade separately? The individual's personality is multifaceted; any knight can appear in various guises before the chronicles, depending on how the pen plays with the record.
— I have heard tell of a secret book that betrays the knightly deeds of an era to the judgment of posterity's gaze, delivering them to triumph. Yet history knows that the pages are held by chroniclers. And so I must ask you directly, my lord: does the light of prestige of the worthiest among the best grant you only a retelling of those most valuable, or the smiles of truth shed upon each companion separately? The individual's personality is multifaceted; any knight can appear in the chronicles in a different guise, depending on how the chronicler's pen plays with the tale.
- A seditious truth is worthier than a well-sounding falsehood, my lady. Even if this contradicts the stated goals, I cannot deviate from this principle.
Despite being buried in battle reports, Stephanie in no way forgot about the erudition contest that ran parallel to the other events. And after the voting at the elegance contest and the ill-fated duel with Lester Vargas, the young woman sat down not to write battle chronicles, but to describe historical eras. It seemed the Knight of Wind used this as a convenient excuse to postpone the account of her shameful defeat.
Essay by Stephanie Valentine on Historical Eras.
The Age of Fire and Steel
The beginning of Tezoth's unification. A time when the foreigner Kanamiya predicted the pains and tragedies that ill-wishers and monsters of regret would bring to our lands. A period when a simple but talented blacksmith from Forun, Eidos the Iron, armed with a hammer of extraordinary power and his own charisma, forged a single nation from scattered city-states.
The task was not an easy one, and not all future regions wished to pledge him their allegiance. But through trial and error, through successful and failed campaigns with considerable losses, the founding father managed to conquer the unruly lands, so that his descendants could later make Tezoth whole. So that today and henceforth, all of us worthy Tezothians could stand side by side against every possible calamity.
The Age of Magic
The time of the first Deus's appearance. The incorporation of the Kanamiyan dominion by the forces of Silia the Benevolent Cortina. The founding of the strategically important Cabochi and Snegality. And above all — the full transformation of the lands into the Kingdom of Tezoth.
One must not forget the founding of the Academy of Magic and the great magical discoveries made by Silia the Benevolent. It is thanks to her reasoning that magic in Tezoth exists in the form it does today. Love, creation, working from one's heart — these are the principles of true mages who bring light to this world to this very day.
And even after Silia the Benevolent's departure, the country continued to flourish, paving the way for the ambitions of the next Deus.
The Age of Luxury
The period when Ceres the Mysterious set off on a long journey, leaving his mark on the history of many lands. The main question: do many of his unofficial descendants truly live in Tisia? Or is that merely a myth?
During his reign, Ceres the Mysterious breathed life into the city of Tenerese Dentset. It is there that the Kon Fortza school originates — rightly the school of the continent's finest fencers.
It is painful to realize that such a great man ended his path in the jaws of a dragon. Not a shameful, but certainly an unjust fate!
The Age of Darkness
A harsh age of the most severe discipline, terrible nutrition, and exiles to Faredjia for any trivial reason whatsoever.
Sanid the Wrathful, perhaps, holds the title of the most disliked Deus by his contemporaries in history. Yet in our time, this ruler gains more and more followers. It seems some people cannot live properly without control by an iron hand.
No matter how cold and cruel the Deus of that age was portrayed, no one can deny that during the formation of the Crater of Regrets and the appearance of the monsters, it was thanks to his command that the people of Tezoth were able to put up a worthy resistance. Sanid the Wrathful was even ready to sacrifice himself for the people's well-being, which shows that despite his harsh whip-hand methods, he did value his people after all.
With the end of this age, the system of power in Tezoth came to the form we know today. On one hand, there is sense in this, as one person cannot and should not single-handedly decide the fate of an entire nation. On the other hand, it seems that among the nobility of those years, selfish motives rather than a desire to build democracy were at play.
The Age of Blue Blood
A time when political technologists knew better what to say and do for the Deus than he himself did. "For everything good, against everything bad" — roughly this can be read in some of Valkhmetra the Brilliant's speeches.
According to some historical documents, Valkhmetra the Brilliant took on the role of a "puppet" not so much out of great desire, but out of the hopelessness of the situation and her inability to prove herself as a talented commander-in-chief. This speaks rather of her wisdom and foresight.
Now in the country, the final word belonged not only to the Deus, but also to his lords. And common people gained the opportunity to prove themselves and rise high up the career ladder. Those who had no ambition to take up arms could afford the luxury of living a simple ordinary life and enjoying the little things.
The Age of Discoveries
At the start of his reign, Renavan the Pious, who did not wish to part with life in the future, found himself one step away from selling his own will and all of Tezoth to the Sithian ruler. But the Deus's wisdom was enough to understand — the game was not worth the candle.
This time is notable for the fact that along with Renavan, the country was consumed by theological pursuits. The development of the Temple of the Dawn Raven in Duskwing, the revelation of Aconism to the people. And even the followers of Ifilla, who seemed to bring destruction to this world, managed to find a secluded corner for themselves in Tezoth.
The search for a suitable confession never yielded the desired result for Renovan the Pious. But this did not stop him from gaining immortality in another sphere — with his own hands he wrote a great many popular books.
The Age of Ambitions
The time when one of the best, shining like the sun, Deus Komajdi the Majestic came to power. Driven not by a thirst for power, but by a desire to make the people happy, this man of many talents managed to prove himself as the greatest leader. It was he who managed to unite the continent by incorporating the Archipelago of Furious Waves into Tezoth.
Unfortunately, the reign of the sun-faced one was short. But even with the loss of Komajdi the Majestic, the country did not fall into stagnation and continued its development. Is this not the main confirmation that the division of power between regional lords in the Age of Blue Blood was an excellent decision?

And so I must ask you directly, my lord: does the light of prestige of the worthiest among the best grant your retelling only to those most valued, or does the smile of spilled light of truth hold a separate account for each comrade? An individual is a multifaceted being; any knight can appear in the chronicles in a different guise, depending on how the pen plays with the record.
- A seditious truth is worthier than a well-sounding falsehood, my lady. Even if it contradicts the stated goals, I cannot waver from this principle.
— A worthy answer from a glorious knight of Deus! Moreover, it would have been a disgrace for me to expect otherwise. Lines pierced with truth are a delight to the pen's ease. Yet I must rein in the harness of ambitious expectations: many turns of the sun will the comprehensive collection take.
and to put it in plain terms, I take it this is something like a knight's interview?
Just gather all the interesting info about the Knights into one tome as much as possible; if you wish, you could even do an interview to pry out some new information. The format and methods are in your hands.
Just no underwear color stuff, like that quest in Sakura, or three digits, Heroist...
Reminded me of Piers Anthony's work "Color of Her Panties," where literally the whole plot revolved around the question of what underwear a mermaid wears.
By the way, I forgot to mention that I not only wrote the assignment but also submitted it. Otherwise, my whole expedition is like: "Stef fights — writes something."

I've only read one book by him (Question Quest), and it haunts me in my nightmares.

That's somewhere in the middle of Xanth, when he'd already started going downhill, writing a lot about panties and generally devolving the world into some kind of nonsense. I liked the first few installments, the rest I read on autopilot, grabbing them off my dad's bookshelf.
Age is age, but it was hard to deny the Golden Coin's agility — a burly man unburdened by excess armor dashing nimbly across the battlefield, spinning in a dance of death. Not everyone could withstand such an onslaught, and even armor, as Catharsis had learned from her own experience, was hardly an obstacle for him. Alaria was in no hurry to expose herself to that whirling vortex of steel again. Instead, she kept a short distance between herself and her opponent, deftly stepping out of his path and sending a throwing knife after the spry old man, or turning to her healing flask. In the end, it was that very caution that brought her victory.
— You held yourself admirably, my lord. Many a youngling would envy your valor and agility, — the Tanarsian woman smiled and extended her hand to the old brigand, — and you did not forget your promise either. I have a feeling the scar you left will be finer than most. Thank you for such a splendid duel!
- I ought to get myself one of those wondrous flasks of yours somewhere — what's in it, scotch or vodka? - The brigand accepts her hand and rises to his feet. - Heh, we'll meet again at Bugurt.
Alaria herself was a bit surprised that the Golden Coin lacked such a useful item in their line of work. Especially given all the medical advances of Pharagia, rumors of which had reached her ears. Even if some of them sounded more like tall tales than the truth.
— Come now, my lord, — Catharsis laughed, — scotch and vodka are for the soul. In my flask, as in the flasks of other participants, sloshes a healing concoction. If you have the time for it, getting one in the capital should hardly be a problem.
When the brigand rose and bid her farewell, the Tanarsian woman answered with a nod.
— I hold no grudge against you, Sir Lester. I have seen you in previous battles, and I suspected my chances against your cunning tactics were too slim. With supersonic speed and deft knife strikes, I fear most here would only have time to gasp. Nevertheless, thank you for not offending Zephyr.
- I would not dare. Such a stately and handsome stallion. Rather, I was the lucky one. And to you, my lady, good luck in the upcoming fights. Watching your battles is quite inspiring, - with a bow, he takes his leave of the lady.
Is it just me suffering, or are the regions going a bit rough? 😓
