I like it. It makes sense to first figure out the light and shadow, tones, and all that, and then add colors. Many of my artist friends do the same – they create black and white images and then color them using gradient overlays. I haven't been able to do that; I've been working almost exclusively in color since childhood.

Yeah, I used a guide from a cool Krita artist, specifically for this kind of idea. I did the hair separately and checked the colors, and it looked good. But I imagine it will be more complicated with the clothes...

By the way, Krita is praised by many, and some actively promote it, but I didn't like it. I switched from SAI to Clip Studio Paint, and it feels like a hybrid of SAI and Photoshop on steroids – it's an amazing program, and I'm drawing the eleventh page of the ninth chapter of my comic in it.

In general, it would be good to try and get a feel for it.
I started by drawing in MyPaint because it was very user-friendly, simple, and easy to learn. But its functionality wasn't great, unfortunately.
I already knew about Krita back then, and I gradually switched to it. This program has a lot of hype because of David Revoy, the guy who draws the "Pepper and Carrot" comic. Its charming style immediately makes you want to learn how to draw the same way.
Actually, I also used a guide by him. David emphasizes using as many layers as possible with different shadows, recommends brushes, and shows how to combine shades of gray into color. It's quite helpful.

SAI seems simple to me. I switched to it from Photoshop a long time ago because it allows you to mix colors on a canvas, which is very difficult to do in Photoshop without a lot of hassle. But when SAI started acting up and glitching, I began looking for another program, and Krita turned out to be a lifesaver. It has very similar brushes and functionality, but at the same time, it has a hundred times more settings and tools.

Whew. It took me so much time.
It's so hard to pick colors, especially for skin.
And I realized too late how badly I was misjudging how dark the colors should be. This was especially true for the face.
I might redo the background later. Another lesson: it's better not to combine the entire image (even if that's what David says), the background should be separate so that you can delete or redraw it later if needed.

But overall, I'm happy with the result. I can go back to quickly sketching the comic.

It managed to surprise me; the idea is very cool. The characters are charismatic, and the world is too...
But there's a downside that slightly spoiled the impression: there's too much focus on Kaburagi and relatively little on Natsume. From the very beginning, I was very interested in her perspective as the main character, as she is clearly in a more difficult situation. It is her world that is collapsing, and she is the one who is forced to remain inactive, constantly waiting. Always in the dark (and that's in the best-case scenario)... You expect her story to be filled with events, ups and downs, and emotions other than "I won't give up no matter what!!!!!!11!!!1!". But in the end, this aspect was somehow neglected, and that's disappointing.
Still, the anime is cool. It just leaves a warm, pleasant, and quite optimistic feeling at the end. I wonder if there will be a sequel? It's not entirely clear whether the authors have said everything they wanted to say, or if there's something more...

And the special effects are awesome

In the last episode, Kaburagi shouts, "I'll tear this place down to the ground!", uses his ultimate ability, and my Mozilla crashes. Now that's what I call a 4D cinema experience; I'm glad I wasn't hit by the explosion.

Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul

Oh, well... This is the third film in a row, which, contrary to custom, was released before the next season of the corresponding series (or maybe they've completely given up on the series; I'm not sure).
I've written before that I liked this cartoon for its certain tragic quality and the difficulties that the characters overcome, including everyday difficulties (unappetizing food, the need to take care of wounds, it was all really detailed and felt very real), but here the authors clearly decided to outdo themselves and show just how tame things were before.
This cartoon is just brutal. Almost two hours of pure, unadulterated brutality. Which ends with more brutality.
Although I can't help but appreciate other things, such as the cuteness of the characters, the coolness of the various grand plans, and so on, but in the end, everything is overshadowed by the brutality.
That is, my point is that the creators went too far this time.
I'm still looking forward to the continuation, however, as the intrigue has not disappeared but has only intensified.
