Based on my impressions of Heroes of Might and Magic over the past two years, the high-roll nature of decks is its defining characteristic.
There's mid-range Dungeon, mid-range Haven, and aggro Sylvan, as well as old-school aggro Stronghold, and there was an era of neutral decks... But yes, there are many high-roll decks.
In 2019, it "suddenly" turned out that mid-range Dungeon was one of the best/most balanced decks in the history of this game.
I wouldn't call mid-range Dungeon a balanced deck, neither the version with Arcus nor, even more so, with Ectar. Aggro Sylvan has always been an unpleasant deck, but it has become better in this regard recently. Mid-range Haven, on the other hand, but in general, this is perhaps the only archetype that has remained at the top for a long time, having a minimum of outright unfair elements. Well, aggro Stronghold and neutral decks only worked on bullsh*t.
Overall, I agree with Revan, especially in the alternate meta, this was very noticeable.
It's not really about "fairness," but about stability. Take Dashka and Dishift, for example – either you get the cards you need and crush everyone, or you're stuck with three Dashkas and can't do anything. But Dungeon, Sylvan, and Necropolis don't have that problem; they have a fairly stable curve, and you have to really try to mess it up.
Suddenly. Damn, I even want to swap Rovan for something different. And Urias too. It's not that I like Filena and Medusa more, but after two years, even cool faces get old.
I had to put Mayesh back into the deck because lately, every time I play, it's either Shadow, Machine Blood, or Cock'itus. With the latter, it depends on luck, but you simply can't beat Shadow by just slamming units on the board. With Blood, you play for ten turns because it has 20 cards in its deck, it destroys all your units, slowly turning your machines, and then it finishes you off with its Stormwind win condition. And Shadow easily survives and clears the early and mid-game, and then in one turn, it plays its entire hand under the Ceres buff, finds and plays Arcusa, and then endlessly clears your board and finishes you off with its finishers. Both decks have broken card draw, so this is a common occurrence. Therefore, with Mayesh, you have "equal" chances. In the end, I settled on a deck that doesn't focus solely on artifacts, but uses a Machine package (without Goblins), and I found that with these matchups, it became noticeably better. I spent my last dust (not counting what I can get by liquefying cards I've accumulated over a year and haven't melted) on a couple of Technolords (in this meta with wide and weak boards, they are very strong; every Machine deck has 2-3 of them and has repeatedly wiped out my units). It turned out that the legendary Lion synergizes well with Mayesh, giving it several Shadows and allowing it to trade with the opponent without spending its evolution point. I also added a Tile for 9 mana; I started with them, then stopped liking them, and now they are necessary again because there is a lot of garbage with Bane and a lot of Shadow; there are much fewer artifacts than in the days of Deuski, so its golems don't seem as bulky and have value, and it can sometimes be played on turn nine. I had to remove the Energymites, although I liked them.
Only eight legendaries, a budget deck. Craft it, newbies. The only requirement is to draw Displacement Bot and Augmentation; otherwise, your win rate will be like Bread's. If you are a strong player, you will definitely draw them!
An April Fool's joke from the developers seems to have affected the game’s performance. I wrote my post after a winning streak that was interrupted not by a loss, but by a connection issue in the client, and now this is happening. It doesn't even launch right away; some kind of window with the Unity engine appears, which never happened before. Or maybe it's another playtest for Cheburashka.
Reven, as I understand it, even this won't make you come back to Heroes of Might and Magic?
I played for a few days, completed new achievements, used the remaining crystals from last year, but it seems like it's not working. I guess I can delete the client again.
I would like to say that trying is not a torture, but considering the specifics of the Heroes of Might and Magic gameplay and its meta, that wouldn't be entirely accurate.
- Sometimes I activated it on turn ten, reaching exactly twenty mana, and thought it was a sort of high-roll. But then I played that match and changed my opinion. I also like how it counters the new Medusa, which has an evolution spent on it, even without its own evolution. It's a pleasant matchup; it's a shame that people have stopped playing Blood and gone back to playing Chicken decks. Perhaps the main outcry about the overpowered Machine Blood came from 3.5 autistic people on the internet in the first week after the release.
