Shyak
- Whew, - the Reimi warrior sighed heavily, taking off his weapon and armor. – I didn't think it would be so hard to deal with them. They are quite nasty. And why did they decide to terrorize villages?
- It’s that time of year when there is little food in the swamps. That's why they go into the villages, - replied the mage, sitting on the ground and leaning against a tree.
- Is he smart or something? – asked the warrior with a smile.
- Yep.
- Hey! Look at what's over there? – asked the warrior, pointing towards the neighboring tree. – A young serpent?
- Yes. He's running away from their lair.
- Didn't notice. We should finish him off.
- Wait, - the mage took a piece of dried meat out of his bag and beckoned the young serpent with it.
The little snake-man quickly ran up, grabbed the meat, put it in his mouth, and swallowed it. After that, he sat down on the ground, apparently waiting for more.
- Cheon, why are you wasting rations for no reason? We still have to get home.
- What do you mean? Look how cute he is! I'll take him with me; I'll run experiments on him.
- You're such an animal abuser…
- Come on. I can't just leave him here. And I don’t want to kill him.
- Whatever you want.

Shyak came to the magician Cheon when he was very young. He didn't remember anything about his childhood. He spent the first part of his life in the magician's laboratory. The young serpent was easy to train and obedient, so he freely walked around the academy building. Everyone treated him like a cute puppy that could be petted, and which also caught rats and mice wonderfully. His services were often used when there were too many parasites in the basement of the academy. Shyak was incredibly happy with his life. Warmth, comfort, love from those around him, hunting rodents, delicious potions that Cheon gave him. It wasn't life; it was a dream.
When the snake grew up and stopped being small and cute, the mage made arrangements with his friends from the military academy and arranged for Shyak to go there. According to the sorcerer, a decent warrior could come out of the snake.
Training pleased Shyak. All these exercises, marches, hikes, and other joys of soldierly life. He even managed to learn to read. Although only by syllables. And despite the cool, and sometimes even negative, attitude from colleagues, Shyak remained satisfied with his life. He had the good fortune to participate in several major military campaigns. After one of them, he was awarded a medal for bravery. However, other soldiers said that this was a medal for stupidity, but Shyak thought that this word meant the same as the word "bravery."
Years passed, Shyak continued his service, often visiting Cheon, whom he simply called "dad." During the time that the snake lived with the magician, Cheon had become attached to him and loved him. Even after his death, he left his favorite ring to the snake as an inheritance. However, after the death of the sorcerer, the serpent-man was politely asked to leave the army. Some people in management were against it because Shyak was a skilled warrior, but others insisted that the presence of a snake spoiled the morale of the other soldiers. Shyak didn't know what "morale" meant, so he decided that they were kicking him out because he smelled bad. One of the officers advised him to go into mercenary work. Shyak did just that, first going to the bathhouse.
Currently, Shyak is engaged in guarding various people from bandits. He isn’t trusted with other tasks. They say that he is too brave for them. Having recently returned from his last assignment, the snake learned about "Morion," where people like him are needed, and immediately headed there.
