I think a schoolgirl who is heartbroken because of unrequited love experiences roughly the same emotions as a person who is devastated because they lost their entire family in an accident and lost their legs. But unfortunately, there's nothing to prove here; they haven't invented a device to measure "emotional pain" yet. So, all of this is just speculation.

Are you sure? There's EEG. The idea is that if it's known that a reaction is painful, then its degree can be measured by brain activity. More brain activity => more shock. But this is, of course, just an assumption. It may be that with an especially large shock, a person, for example, falls into a stupor and the brain, on the contrary, slows down its activity, as a countermeasure to the shock... Anyway, I don't believe that this cannot be studied.
Regarding the schoolgirl, I completely agree with Nebkom here. It's clear that later, if she doesn't end up doing something drastic, she will re-evaluate everything and will probably find it funny that she reacted so strongly to such a small thing. But at that moment, her brain was in a state of shock, because they haven't installed a device to measure the seriousness of problems in people's heads, and this is individual. For some, even during a major earthquake, it won't be comfortable, but it won't be particularly scary, while someone screams at the sight of a spider.

I expected just an interesting, perhaps even a good, dramatic story, but as it turned out, behind all the bright colors, cute characters, and simplicity, lies a reality that is not at all bright, but rather harsh and agonizing.
