This post was written jointly with Pit for LM and is addressed to all HOMM-III online players. I think many of you are aware of the poll conducted by Pit recently. Briefly for the uninitiated: several annual nominations are proposed, among them - "Novice of the Year". No objections from players were noted, and many supported the idea. ABI and Pit for LM decided to start not with this, but with the past year. And so, somewhat belatedly

ABI announces a competition for the title "Novice-2008"

Competition regulations.
1. In this thread, candidates for the honorary title are nominated.
2. We discuss the award for the avatar and profile.
3. ABI reviews the candidates, approves the list, and conducts a vote.
4. Awarding and congratulations.

Now a bit more detail.
1. The candidate must meet the following conditions:
1) registration on HW: from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.
2) prior to registration on HW, the nominee had no serious experience in HOMM3 online games.
3) progress in the game during 2008, achieved specifically on our forum.
4) active participation in games, tournaments, and forum life.

ANY HW USER may nominate ONE candidate (mandatory to justify their choice), as well as participate in the discussion of all other candidates and the vote.

Before nominating your candidate, it is advisable to talk to them, conduct a kind of interview. Why? On the one hand, they might withdraw themselves (for example, because they played for two years on HP under a different nickname before registering on HeroesWorld, and you didn't know that), and, on the other hand, they might tell you something interesting from their Hero biography that will help you present the candidate in a favorable light. And in general, such interviews will be interesting to everyone.
Take a careful approach to composing the application, list all the merits of your candidate.

Each nomination will be carefully reviewed by ABI. Some may have to be refused, no hard feelings

2. As an award, Pit proposed a "golden kettle" for the avatar and profile. I like the idea. Freelance artists are already tasked. If there are other options - suggest them, we'll discuss

3. After the list of candidates is approved, ABI will organize a vote in this thread. The voting is universal, equal, and open. Any HW user has the right to vote for ONE candidate. Candidates do not vote for themselves

4. Starting from 2009, it seems more rational to hold the award ceremony in January of the following year. For 2008, I propose to award by September, i.e., we will have, say, a month to select candidates + a month for voting

We await suggestions on the topic, accept criticism, clarifications and... nominations!

Quarrels and arguments are prohibited

I suggest adding some points and making some adjustments to the interview process: 1. When selecting a candidate, create a short list. For example, list the tournaments they participated in and how they contributed (in forums, tournaments, etc.). 2. Also, check if they are a member of a clan (in my opinion, this is a significant factor). 3. As mentioned, consider their participation on other resources (whether they are a newcomer or not).

Personally, I envision the award here as a Golden Teapot, to be used as an avatar – the miniature could be taken from the game – a helmet-teapot, and the drawing – a beautiful, shiny golden teapot with the inscription "Novice-2008". I'm not very good at drawing, so I won't attempt to materialize the idea. And the nomination could be called "Golden Teapot - 2008".

Since I'm responsible for design work, I took the liberty of creating a trial (or perhaps final) version of the award after reading this post =)
with a miniature – I haven't put much effort into it yet. +):rolleyes:

Sorry, I didn't quite understand which version the newbie is playing – Heroes of Might and Magic 8 or 9? Because the topic title clearly violates the rules.

RAPER - it looks good, I like it. I asked another artist to draw one more character - if he succeeds, we'll choose one from yours. And the second one - if you don't mind - can be used for a medal in the tournament (the medal itself is ready, we just need the drawing), or for next year. Dirty - you have a keen eye! My clanmate, poker player, namesakes with a famous basketball player, and just a good person - LeBron :) He started playing in 2008, and everyone can see the results. I think no further comments are needed ;)

It's strange that the candidate must be registered on HW from 07.2007 to 07.2008. It would be more logical to have this period throughout 2008.

Let me explain.
Imagine someone registered at the end of 2008, say, on December 10th. They only have 20 days to prove they deserve the title, which is unrealistic. They also won't be nominated for 2009, so they miss out. That's why we decided to shift this criterion by half a year.
We will indeed consider achievements for the calendar year 2008, without any shifts.

Regarding the nominated candidates, I'm supporting them silently for now.

One of (if not the) most responsive, kind, understanding, down-to-earth, wise... people on this forum that I have ever communicated with! In such a short time to earn a spot on the ХВ national team, and not just break into it, but immediately become almost the only one who wrote reports for that team with the word "def":)

Maybe, Kostya, maybe, but... if that's the case, this award shouldn't be called "Rookie of the Year," but rather "Player of the Year," because it just doesn't sound right. LeBron or Pete as "Rookie of the Year" definitely doesn't sound right. In my subjective opinion, it's not appropriate for players of that level to have a "newbie" avatar. I hope you understand.

Regarding what Pete wrote about him losing, I remember that time, and when I played with him, I never considered him an underdog, even at the beginning of his online career. If he did lose, it was very rare, and because of buggy respawn points.

And so, we return to defining the concept of a beginner.
If we follow my understanding of this term (a person who recently joined the forum and has a low skill level in HMM3), then none of these 3 candidates – Aldegir, LeBron, Pit for LM – can be considered beginners. Each of them probably has a significant heroic past in offline play, and they all immediately demonstrated a good level of gameplay. I agree with Pasha – we need to choose from among the newbies who are actively progressing on the online platform.

I'm not planning to interfere for now.
Just a reminder that we're choosing the "Rookie of the Year" for 2008.
We're choosing from those who joined after July 1, 2007, meaning 2 years have already passed. It's clear that they are no longer rookies. :)
We'll also be choosing the "Rookie of the Year" for 2009 soon.
There will also be a "Player of the Year" nomination.
