Posts from Heroes 2 – Crashes when playing online (Windows XP).

Hello, dear forum members!

I don't know how to solve the problem: Heroes 2 crashes randomly when playing over the internet. It crashes either on the "host" or the "guest" machine, it varies. We are trying to play with a friend and against the computer. I suspect the problem is with the operating system...

All known versions crash, including the FULL version of Farghus, Gold Book, and Gold English, both ripped and from the disc.

Please tell me, has anyone encountered something similar and tried playing "Heroes 2" over the internet on Windows XP?



The disc version is "Platinum Edition," a licensed copy.

How do you connect? Direct IP, Hamachi, or something else? Usually, crashes under XP can be fixed easily – you need to go to the shortcut properties, Compatibility tab, select Windows 95 compatibility mode, and check the box. P.S. Hooray! Finally, someone responded! :) We clicked on the shortcut properties and tried all the options. We were on the same provider's network, so we just entered the IP addresses. What is Hamachi, and what other options are there? I would gladly play! I just have little experience with online games (but a lot of experience with computer games :o).

Hamachi is a free program that emulates a local network over the internet.
Other options:
pLan - it does the same thing, but with a different interface:)
Game Spy Arcade - I haven't even installed it, but they say it works:)
And, of course, there's the option of using a direct IP address.

You can also use your vast experience playing against AI by participating in offline tournaments on our forum.
Regarding playing over the internet (so-called online play), I recommend installing Hamachi, creating an ICQ account, and contacting one of the players of Heroes II. Just don't forget about compatibility with Windows 95.
