Heroes of Might and Magic III: HotA 1.8.1 — Key Changes
Released: August 25, 2026. This update focuses primarily on stability, multiplayer fixes, map and event tools, balance adjustments, and new content. The Bulwark campaign is not included yet.
Better stability and performance: improved combat-screen performance and fixed multiple crashes, AI loops, campaign issues, and event-system errors.
More reliable multiplayer: fixed several online desynchronization issues, including Rune Altar and Lightning Rod-related desyncs.
Random maps improved: fixed empty water-zone generation and custom-object generation; random maps can now contain up to 10,000 events and Pandora’s Boxes.
Gameplay balance: Fair construction cost doubled, War Mammoths were adjusted, Dalton was nerfed, and Ergon’s movement specialty was improved.
Smarter AI: fixed combat Teleport behavior, Quicksand interaction, artifact valuation, and several AI-related quest and event issues.
Major editor improvements: the combined Map Editor limit for local events and Pandora’s Boxes is now 20,000, with better event-system usability, verification, and stability.
New content: added 5 new maps, 2 new templates — Conquest and Sapphire — plus new Snow Ice Formations and matching mine graphics.
Improved onboarding: the in-game tutorial no longer requires consulting the printed manual from the installation folder.
