Let's open it.
The group finds itself in a room with three doors. One leads north, another west, and the third back south.
Let's go.
The second group encounters another door.

What about the other NPCs? Or are we supposed to not know about them?

Not a staircase. But a "window."

Cynius and Aria?
Yes.
I'm already lost anyway.
Let's move on if no one objects.

We open it.
By the way, it's interesting what that duplicate door leading south was for. It's not obvious.
The group exits into a large room with high ceilings. Further north, a gray door could be seen, but it was also possible to turn west, moving along a long hall.

Now we need to discuss our options. Lock, Nay, what do you think? I would go west.

The door to the south led the suffering heroes to a room with four doors. One was the one they came from, and the other three led in opposite directions.
