I spent the entire 1st week scouting with 4 heroes, hoping to save up for birds. The road to the adjacent zone was cut off by a block of Dragon Fly Hives, so I never managed to place fens - I was short by 1.5k (
In the end, I started collecting hives at the respawn, and in the second-max I was overrun...
