I never spent excessive time studying any map (at most, I played it for the first week to understand the layout, and in single-player a couple of times). Sometimes, I would study a map already during a tournament, an hour or two before the game started. And many others did the same, including the aforementioned Antal.
And I actually like this even more. Back in the day, when playing ToH, I would watch replays and see how the top players did the same thing in every game, and it made me feel sad. I had to practice to keep up, but as I already mentioned, this was annoying in the fixed versions.
If it doesn't come to that now, I will be very happy.
