I tested it with the latest HD version. Not all functionality is available, though (including saving). But at least you can divide the map into cells, choose the desired scale, and use all the hotkeys from the HD mod. However, the function to leave a hero without an army is missing, at least. I don't know what else might come up.
But there is an alternative option, as it was done before: there is still an icon to launch the HD mod without the launcher. In this case, all the advantages of the WOG (hotkeys, etc.) remain, except that you can change the scale (it's really terrible to play in 2017 at 800*600).

In my opinion, two options are enough

P.S. I agree with Artem: a timer of 4000+500 is sufficient.
I would also add HL to the pool of templates instead of CM and Panic.
