How different should these systems be? ... so different that one would award points, and the other wouldn't?

I don't understand what systems you're talking about. I participated in the development of rating systems for OFF-line TOURNAMENTS. You've brought up online tournaments for some reason, although I don't know if a rating is even calculated there. Currently, in the ratings that AlexPank, Kyle, and I maintain, online tournaments are not taken into account. Come up with your own rating system for them if you can, calculate them however you want, and don't bother us :p I think I've clearly explained why five blitz tournaments should be worth the same as one standard offline tournament.
