Are you kidding? You can take the Conservator without any losses and without all those tricks. I managed with 4 Knights, 5 Snipers, 19 Archers, and 4 Crusaders.

I used 3 Flies and 4 Unicorns – I lost 1 Fly (which was used to weaken the Greymage slot). And, of course, magic helped.
As for the Archmages, I only had 2 Dragons... I couldn't manage to save the rest – there was just no way.
