Gulag raised his fist in the air and gave a signal. The squad of R'lyeh warriors immediately reacted and took up positions near the buildings. The village occupied by Madian soldiers was an important strategic point in the buffer zone between two states.
It seems they haven't noticed the approaching special forces unit yet. This could be a trap, but the captain believed in the enemy's carelessness, which he had demonstrated many times before. After a couple more gestures, two groups – "Claw" and "Fang" – separated from the squad and went around both sides of the village, while Gulag with the rest moved forward at the head. Creeping to the nearest house where lights were on, the captain pressed against the wall and listened, but it was difficult to distinguish any sounds inside due to the ever-present hum of the icy wind.
Suddenly, the door of the hut burst open, and a man stumbled out. He shivered, fell into the snow with his first step, and swore loudly. In the moonlight, Gulag saw Madian insignia on his clothes. The man brushed himself off, spat, and walked towards the corner of the house where the orc was hiding. And just as the sound of footsteps in the snow became almost deafening, it suddenly stopped and was replaced by the sound of gurgling water. Waiting for it to end, Gulag peeked out from behind the corner, grabbed the soldier, and pulled him back. Pressing him against the wall, covering his mouth with one hand, and pressing the sword against his ribs with the other, he hissed:
- Quiet, quiet, don't panic. Tell me what I want to hear, and you will live. Nod if you understand," - the terrified soldier nodded. - How many of you are here?
As soon as Gulag restored the enemy's ability to speak, he screamed:
- Brothers!!! Demons!!! AAAAAA!!! - the last exclamation abruptly ended when the sword pierced the heart of the Madian.
- R'lyeh! Attack!
Gulag gave the order, and "Hammer" together with "Fang" and "Claw", which had taken up positions, began clearing the area.

By dawn, the weak resistance had long been suppressed, and the few remaining villagers and surrendered Madians were herded into the center of the village. Interrogations revealed that the main army had retreated, leaving only a small garrison here. They were supposed to take all food supplies away and set the settlement on fire.
The miserable, beaten, and soot-covered faces of the peasants evoked pity, and the captain reassured them while waiting for the arrival of the R'lyeh federal army.
They had to wait several hours until observers finally signaled that their main forces had been spotted. The huge army of diverse fighters was led by General Imir – a cruel commander who had never lost a battle.
He entered the village first on his horse adorned with horns and gold and immediately demanded a report.
- And this rabble managed to occupy our territory? - the general's face twisted in contempt. - These pathetic animals?
Dismounting from his horse, he nodded at Gulag:
- Good job, Captain. Every weed must be completely eradicated.
Gulag frowned.
- Nothing special, they offered little resistance. We are ready to deliver the prisoners to headquarters for interrogation and evacuate the residents before the end of the operation.
- To headquarters? - Imir was surprised. - What can they tell us that we don't already know? They will be executed. As for the collaborators...
- General?...
- Any true R'lyeh warrior will fight the enemy to the last. Traitors are just as much weeds. If they take root, the scale of destruction will be much greater.
He pulled a spiked axe from his belt and turned to the nearest prisoner – a young peasant boy.
- No compromises.
Gulag took a few steps towards the general.
- Sir. We must deliver them according to orders; let the tribunal decide their fate...
- Remember your place, captain," Imir interrupted softly. - We act according to the situation; this is the best choice right now. Believe me, son, I have been through more than one campaign.
- General, with all due respect, we shouldn't...
- I said – remember your place, orc,” Imir hissed through gritted teeth in a mocking tone. - You know what happens when you violate subordination!
He raised the axe over the boy, Gulag drew his weapon and rushed forward, but he could not block the blow. Part of the boy's head and arm rolled into the ditch, women screamed, and the general roared loudly as he attacked the captain. The skirmish lasted only a couple of moments: the general was incredibly unlucky to trip over the body of the executed villager, and he flew straight onto Gulag's sword. The captain quickly withdrew his sword, but the life of the invincible commander, the hope of the federal army, had already ended. In the next seconds, he was disarmed, captured, beaten unconscious, and sent to prison.
