Problems with Heroes of Might and Magic IV.

The 5th installment – yes, but not the 4th. In the 4th game, everything developed, perhaps too much in some areas, but there are reasons for that.
However, the 5th part, which logically should have gathered and perhaps developed all the ideas, turned out to be more like you correctly noted, more similar to the heroes, but lost the narrative thread. BUT this is not a flaw of the 4th game!
