I emerged after 2 defeats where I received 2 defense boosts and nothing else (no speed, stats, or control, etc.), but I had a decent army: 7 gray dragons, 4 angels, 30 sprites, and a good hero. The center was weak, with a Gunnar who was roughly equal in stats but had slightly higher spell power and 9 red dragons, along with some minor units. As a result, I found wings, a cloak of repentance, and bracers, and that was game over.
