He just ran in the wrong direction... I also had a similar, rich computer treasure trove like yours... just a little bit of bad luck.
I also forgot that a rich computer treasure trove can be found on a mini-node. I saw my first treasure trove, and there wasn't much there, so I ran to the center, lost half my army on a double Guardian of Order. And there wasn't much in the center either... everything was minimal, and the guards were tough...
