Hey, check out what I discovered about the Rakshasas (found it by chance in some little book in the library, and now it's been confirmed online too)! It seems like the devs misinterpreted them....


"Rakshasas (Ancient Indian: 'one who guards' or 'one from whom one hides'), in ancient Indian mythology, are one of the main classes of demons. Unlike the Asuras, who are rivals to the gods, Rakshasas act primarily as enemies of humans.
In Vedic literature, Rakshasas are depicted as nocturnal monsters that hunt humans and interfere with sacrifices; they either have a terrifying appearance themselves: one-eyed, multi-headed, horned (AV VIII 6), or take the form of sinister beasts and birds (RV VII 104). Later, Rakshasas are usually described as giant cannibals, long-armed, with fiery eyes, huge bellies, sunken mouths, bloodstained fangs, etc."
