While I was in the city of evil, I acquired a couple of books on Taoism. I've been interested in this topic for a long time, but I didn't want to read it on a screen. Anyway, I decided to skim through it now, and there was one amusing paragraph:
If you don't show what might cause envy, then the hearts of the people won't be disturbed. Therefore, when governing [the country], the perfectly wise ruler makes the hearts [of his subjects] empty and their stomachs full. [His rule] weakens their will and strengthens their bones. It constantly strives to ensure that the people have no knowledge or passions, and those who have knowledge are unable to act.
Doesn't it remind you of anything? It's a perfect fit. You can immediately see the great wisdom in these words!
