The heroes I needed didn't appear; either scouts or someone with an unattractive portrait that I didn't like. Only after 2 weeks did Ciel appear and start leveling up.
I was constantly short on resources and gold, but the two Harpy nests near my home Dungeon were useful.
I was thinking about attacking the mage guards or upgraded liches, and I took a risk with the latter. Half of my army was lost, but I decided not to argue with the autobattle.
Then I noticed that KOT3 sent reinforcements to Solmyr, and this was my only chance to attack. Immediately after that, with my last move, I captured KOT3's capital, where Solmyr arrived, but without reinforcements, so it wasn't enough.
