Actually, there was no matriarchy. This has been proven by historians of primitive societies and ethnographers. People often fail to distinguish between two things: the transmission of kinship or inheritance through the maternal line, the cult of female deities, and the power of women. Take Israel as an example – kinship is passed down through the female line. But that doesn't mean it's a matriarchy.
