Well, it's quite obvious that someone who is richer or simply lucky with their equipment has an advantage over someone with average or no equipment at all, regardless of their fighting skills. From this point of view, I like this aspect because, firstly, the winners of the stages receive some reward for winning the intermediate stages of the tournament in the form of equipment, secondly, those participants who managed to defeat more well-equipped opponents are rewarded, and thirdly, I don't see any problems with this from an RP perspective.
