Well, here's the situation that Vip described: we were drawing from a list of unplayed templates, as Alex_nv insisted – a shared list of unplayed templates from both players. We drew M3. But I've already played M3, and I still have 2 unplayed templates. In the next game, we'll draw M3 again with the future opponent. And it will turn out that I'm playing the same template 3 times without playing the entire list. The most optimal option is the one from Dvp, if we follow the principle of drawing from an incomplete list. That's basically it.

If the goal was to clearly play different templates, then yes, but if the goal was simply to organize some variety of templates (which I think is perfectly fine) and to avoid constantly playing the same template, then option 1 is perfectly fine. The only problem with it is that the more games there are, the smaller the selection of templates becomes, and accordingly, there will be more repetitions.
