Because if you dismiss and punish the accuser, it will only lead to those who thought the same way but didn't have arguments silently ignoring the suspect. That's not what we want.

This is what I'm getting at - if there are any suspicions, you don't need to immediately start stirring up trouble about morality and ethics, all sorts of flame wars. You need to ask the players (preferably privately), study the saves, not with the goal of finding compromising evidence (it rather hinders), but with the goal of studying the player, understanding their thought process. And based on the results, you can judge whether there is anything there or not.
