Ah, you mean that thing where you keep checking for new messages on your computer, refreshing every half hour, even though you know there probably won't be any, just to put off doing something more important? I've been there. Though, for me, there was a certain meaning to it. The meaning was that 1) I wanted to see the reaction to my messages IMMEDIATELY, and 2) I wanted to know what others were up to in general (specifically, what my virtual acquaintances and real friends were doing, who also hang out in the same online community - what's happening in my country and in the world in general). Now, I don't do that much anymore. Maybe because my main interests have moved to the real world. And pointless actions have moved there too - like going to a store even though I don't need to buy anything, for example.
