Running around with one angel, clearing treasure rooms for 10k gold didn't help much: you could buy 11 town improvements, 4 horses, no demons... And that's basically the whole army, a mage hero with skills 2 4 5 5, full mana, experience healing, advanced slowdown. But against 2 phoenixes 5-9, 1 angel, maybe more... 200 caps... he wouldn't be able to handle it.
