A soldier can be effective against bosses. And the area-of-effect abilities of the Strength skill are great because they can wipe out half the location at once, which is what I like about them. The only downside is that the Consul is very weak, but for me, this was only a problem in the first few levels. After that, I took healing, stasis, found shields, and everything was fine.
