In my opinion, the initial power disadvantage compared to Tyras/Grechka should be compensated by the amount of meat – immediately get ogres, get bears as quickly as possible, with the goal of finishing the first week in 1-7 in the castle. If, of course, the money allows.
I'm surprised that people even start with these heroes in HotA. Gurney on Diamond is still somewhat understandable, but on other templates, not taking a hero with a guaranteed starting strong stack is just silly.
