Small maps are good for playing against an opponent online. When you have the opportunity, you should try it, and I think you'll get hooked.

No, I still won't get into it. I don't even like playing small maps over a network... I like big maps and Campaigns. There's room to maneuver and try out different tactics. I especially like interesting quests.

Sometimes scenarios are much more interesting than Campaigns. Because in a Campaign, you have to start each mission from scratch, only with a leveled-up hero. It's tedious to go through Campaigns, IMHO.

Well, Campaigns can be different. Even chasing the computer can be interesting. For example, even though pirated versions are criticized, the campaign for King Arthur was interesting. In one mission (I think it was the 3rd), the opponents were unrealistically strong. Especially the last Barbarian, imprisoned on an island.

And from recent impressions about maps, I also liked the Tournament map. It's just fun to play it. Here's an example of a good single-player map.
